Barbara Helen Patch

1924 - 2015

Barbara Helen Patch, 90, of Havenwood, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2015. The daughter of Harry and Josephine Mugridge Patch, she was born in Boston on Oct. 31, 1924, and grew up in Manchester and Goffstown. Barbara graduated from Plymouth State (Women's) College in 1946 and obtained a Masters Degree in Education from Fitchburg State College. A lifelong advocate for education, she worked for a number of years as a 5th grade teacher in Lunenburg, Mass. while raising her family in Fitchburg, Mass. with her late husband Norman E. Patch Sr.

Known for her strong will and loyalty, she had many friends. Active in Plymouth State alumni affairs, she enjoyed lifelong friendships with several class mates recently celebrating her 90th birthday together. Barbara was an active tennis player, skier, and field hockey player, and an especially avid reader. She had a natural talent for most arts and crafts including knitting and bird carving. In recent years, she was well cared for and became very close to the loving and devoted Staff at Havenwood.

She is survived by her two sons, Norman Patch of Portland, Ore. and his wife, Joanne, and Douglas Patch of Bow, and his wife, Donna, and their three children, Adam, Emily and Jonathan.

Services will be held at Havenwood at a later time.
