Christopher DUNN Obituary

DUNN,

Christopher Charles

March 31, 1966 - Dec. 18, 2014

Chris is survived by his mother, Kaye Riebschlaeger Dunn and the late William R. Dunn, and by his brother Robert Kevin Dunn, two sisters, Anne Marie Dunn, (daughter Emily Joyce and partner Linda Seewald) and Mary Elizabeth Dunn Thomas (son Jonathan Corbett and brother in law William Thomas), by his aunt, Sister Elizabeth Riebchlaeger ccvi, and numerous cousins, and his beloved dog, Miss Dusty.

Born in Lamarque, Texas, Chris and family moved to the Caribbean in 1968, specifically Puerto Rico and St. Croix, US Virgin Islands where he lived as an island child, water nymph, sailor, scuba diver, competitive swimmer and lover of learning. His dad, Bob, taught the family to love the cultures and language, and Chris was beautifully bilingual. He loved the people of the West Indies and was able to compete in the Central and South American countries and Caribbean nations - swimming in the World Games in Quito, Ecuador, for the Virgin Islands Swimming Federation, as well as in Cuba twice. After graduating from high school in St. Croix, Chris moved to Texas to for college, making his home in Austin since the mid-80's. Chris spent ten years in management for the Chuy's company at several Austin locations as well in Dallas. He enjoyed creating many memorable roof top decorations for the company, particularly the chili pepper and Santa and spaghetti at Christmas for several years. His sense of humor and quick wit were contagious and were a seamless part of his dynamic personality. Later, he worked in the mortgage banking business. In recent years, he was active in the Austin music scene in several capacities and as a general contractor in Austin, both commercial and in re-design.

Ever the adventurer, Chris once crewed a sail boat from Miami to Panama where he and a friend disembarked and traveled back to Texas on foot and by catching rides. He was a lover of people, new places, fun, music, animals, the environment, and his friends and family.

Chris loved many and gave fully to all relationships. He was a care giver - providing support at any time~to those in need. He loved Austin and its many developing interests. He was loved by many people who are deeply saddened by his passing. The family celebrated an intimate Mass in their home to celebrate and to honor his life.

Chris would want all of us to carry on the goodness of a healthy, happy life with much travel and love of people and care for the environment. In Chris' honor, donations of time or money can be given to Environment Texas, The Salvation Army, Austin Pets Alive, or to a charity of one's choice.

I worked with Chris at Trudy's and hung out with him in the early '90s and remember him very well, one of the most likable and laid-back guys I've ever met. Ran into him years later deep in the crowd at the NOLA Jazz Fest and he was clearly loving the music and life. I'll remember him that way. Best wishes to his family.
