Dixie Wade Ackerman, 84, of Carmi, passed away Wednesday, February 8, 2012, at 9:15 a.m. in Carmi, Ill.
She was born February 25, 1927, in West Frankfort, Ill., the daughter of Robert Bruce and Dimple (Fulkerson) Wade. Dixie married Frank Hall Ackerman June 21, 1942, and he preceded her in death January 8, 1999.
She was a homemaker and a member of Big Prairie Methodist Church.
Surviving are three daughters and two sons-in-law, Susan and Bill Weir, of Springfield, Ill., Nancy A. Winter, of Carmi and Darcy and Lamont Ellison, of Evansville, Ind.; a son and daughter-in-law, Arthur and Carol Ackerman, of Carmi; two sisters, Vivian Williams, of Carmi and Modell Leathers, of Bedford, Texas; a brother, Robert Wade, of Carmi; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Dixie Wade Ackerman, 84, of Carmi, will be 1 p.m. Sunday, February 12, 2012, at Big Prairie United Methodist Church near Carmi. Burial will be in Kuykendall Cemetery near Carmi. Friends may call Saturday from 4 until 7 p.m. at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi. On Sunday the body will lie in state at Big Prairie United Methodist Church from noon until time of service.
Memorial gifts may be given in Dixie's name to Big Prairie United Methodist Church or St. Mary's Medical Center Foundation and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home.
