Thomas J. Prout

1937 - 2022

Thomas J. Prout, 84, passed away on October 22, 2022 at Albany Medical Center, surrounded by family. Tom was born on November 2, 1937, in Albany, NY, the son of Thomas James Sr and Stanlia Jankisz Prout. He married his loving wife of 62 years, Joan Ann Weatherby Prout on September 19, 1960. Tom was among the first students to attend his alma mater, Guilderland High School. While there, Tom helped run the family chicken farm. He earned an Associate's degree from Cornell University - 1957, and travelled across NYS working as an Ag & Markets inspector for many years. Tom retired as a Sr. Employment Rep for the NY State Labor Department where he helped thousands of people find jobs. Tommy enjoyed helping others. He never missed serving as greeter at the Saratoga County Fair and remembered fondly meeting all the people as he handed out free potatoes at the NYS fair. From the time he retired until a month before his death he volunteered 3 times a week for Meals on Wheels preparing and delivering meals. Tom greeted the sun every morning at 4 am to go out for his 7 mile walk. He enjoyed gardening and never met a cookie or candy he didn't like! Thomas is survived by his wife, Joan: two sons, James (Tina) and Daniel (Diana), four grandchildren, Jamie (deceased), Michael, Bridgette, Janelle Ritter, and two great granddaughters. Also surviving is his beloved brother Tim (Patty) and numerous other loving family members. A memorial service will be held for family in November.
