Michael Wittmann Obituary

Michael A. and Janet L. Wittmann

Michael Arthur Wittmann, 75, died peacefully at his home in Peoria, AZ, on September 14, 2025.

Mike was born June 12, 1950, in West Bend, Wisconsin, to Ludwig and Amelia Wittmann. He graduated from West Bend High School in 1968 and obtained a business degree from UW-Whitewater. He moved to the Chicago, IL area, where he began working for Amity Leather Products as a salesman for the Rolfs line of leather goods. He later became an independent sales agent for a variety of products.

While living in Chicago, he met Janet Schiefelbein, the love of his life. The two were married on September 30, 1978, in Lombard, IL. Mike and Jan eventually settled in Aurora, IL. In 2013, they moved to Peoria, AZ, and enjoyed their retirement, which included golfing and traveling around the United States, visiting family and friends.

Mike was an avid golfer, playing in many leagues and tournaments. He enjoyed golfing with Jan and friends from the Wisconsin area who came down in the winter to live or visit.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jan, who died September 11, 2025; his parents; his in-laws, Ralph and Shirley Schiefelbein; his sister-in-law, Patti Hornstra; and many aunts, uncles, and friends.

He is survived by brothers, Steven (Mary), Donald (Cathy), and James (Mary). He is further survived by nieces, Brenda (Bryon) Williams, Jill Hanson; nephews, Matthew (friend, Cassie), Bryan (Molly), and Tyler (Shae); ten grandnieces and one grandnephew, all very special to him; and many cherished friends with whom they enjoyed getting together.

The family would like to especially thank the many friends who brought meals over or provided transportation and comfort for both Mike and Jan. Your friendship meant so much.

A private memorial and burial will be held at a later date.

Janet Lee Wittmann (nee Schiefelbein), age 74, of Peoria, Arizona, peacefully passed away in the early morning of September 11, 2025.

Janet was born on June 13, 1951, in Lombard, Illinois, to Ralph and Shirley Schiefelbein. She married Michael A. Wittmann on September 30, 1978. For 30 years, Janet worked as an executive assistant at Nalco Chemical Company. She was a resident of the Chicago, Illinois area until she and Mike moved to Peoria, Arizona in 2013.

Janet was survived by her loving husband, Mike Wittmann, for three days after her death. She is also survived by her sisters, Judy Schiefelbein (Larry Cunningham) and Peggy Kiss (Steve); nephews, Adam Kiss and Sam Hornstra (Victoria and daughter, Shirley); brother-in-law, Guss Hornstra; and niece, Kathleen.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Patti Hornstra; uncle and aunt, Gordon and Marian Scott; and parents, Ralph and Shirley Schiefelbein.

Janet's wish was to be cremated and have her ashes buried along with Mike's upon his passing. She wanted only a casual celebration of life, which will be held at a later date.
