Peter Wert

Peter Beyer Wert of Charlottesville, Virginia, passed away on January 23, 2023. Born in Denver, Colorado, in 1945 to Dr. Robert Joseph Wert and Ann Beyer Wert, he was raised in Stanford, California, where he graduated from Stanford University in 1970.

Peter was a fundraiser for colleges and universities in New York City, the American Film Institute in Washington D.C. and Hollywood, California, and the Motion Picture and Television Fund. Prior to retiring to Maine in 2015, he co-owned and operated two cab companies in the California bay area. Peter excelled in amateur car racing, continuing his father's love of fast sports cars. In 2021, Peter relocated to Charlottesvie, Virginia, where he was close to his son, Justin Robert Wert, a professor of English at Piedmont Virginia Community College, and his grandson Ian Robert Wert.

He is survived by his sister, Amy Johnson of Gig Harbor, Washington; his son, Justin Wert; and his grandchildren, Ian Wert, William Wert of Daniel Island, South Carolina, and Larry Wert of Oxford, Mississippi. Peter was predeceased by his brother, Alec Metcalf Wert.
