My deepest condolonces go out to the Alex family at this time of grief. While it has been a long time since I have seen or spoken to Spero or any members of the Alex family, I was fortunate enough to grow up as a childhood friend of his son Manuel. I will never forget being at the Fair Valley Pool and being young and Spero throwing us through the air to come down splashing in the water and as we grew up he became a coach, teaching, and mentoring all of us on the soccer field. I couldn't have asked for a better coach or friend than Spero and the rest of the Alex family and I will always have fond memories of him. Once again my deepest sympathies.

Having worked in the public relations department at Grandview for 10 years (1988-1998), there was a period of time where our team reported to Spero. I have very fond memories as he was a very supportive and gracious person as well as smart, strategic, witty and had a wonderful sense of humor, too. I offer my sincere sympathy to the Alex family.

My deepest sympathy to all of the Alex family with the passing of Spero. I remember everything we did together as kids from swimming and playing at Miami Valley, our days at Belle Haven and then when we moved next door to his family in 1971. It sure made acclimating to a new school easy when you were a friend of Spero. He taught me all the Greek I know...none of it that I could say in mixed company. Too many great memories to recite them all. I was fortunate to have known him and to be able to call him my friend.

I was hoping the obituary would indicate what high school Spero attended. If it was Northmont City Schools, Spero would have been one of my students. It is not the first time I have lost a student, but it saddens me when I see a life snuffed out so young. The Spero I knew was rarely absent; but if he missed class, we would sometimes find his name as Alex Spero. He was always graceful when someone reversed his name. If he was not a Thunderbolt, please accept my condolences for your loss.

We never got the opportunity to meet Spero, but we were filled with many stories by his son Manuel, and our niece Danelle. The admiration and respect for his father was reflected in the many times Manuel proudly spoke about his dad. Our hearts our breaking for the entire family during this tremendous loss. May God Bless you and help you find comfort in time with all of the wonderful memories you will hold in your hearts forever!

Sandy I'm heartbroken for you. Spears was my best friend through high school and college. I always regretted not staying in touch. All of the great, crazy, unforgettable times we had together still bring a big smile inside. Including your fabulous wedding and the night "Speed" and I stayed up all night until we were convinced you were meant for each other. God's peace.

Dear Sandy and family,
We are so very sorry to hear of the death of Spero. We know he fought hard against a disease that impacts all of us in one way or another. Surely the love of his entire family helped him get through the roughest of days. You have our very deepest sympathy and we pray his memory is eternal.

My sincerest condolences to Spiro's entire family. I'm very sad to hear about his passing. I grew-up just down the street from Spiro in Dayton Ohio and remember him well. Spiro was an extremely determined and driven individual even back then. He overcame so much adversity at such a young age with the loss of his dear father; and his extraordinary academic, professional career, and family achievements afterwards speak volumes. Rest in peace, Spiro.

Sincere condolences to the entire Alex family from me and all of the Furst Family. We were Glenbrook Drive neighbors when we were little kids and then both families moved not far away from each other in Northmont area. Spero was always a kind funny, cheerful fellow and I have wonderful memories of his mother Maxine who was an amazing Mom I used to ride my bike over and talk to her like she was a pal. May his memory be a blessing to all.

Although I only had the pleasure of knowing Spero for the last year of his life, the word that immediately comes to my mind is Grace. He was already fighting cancer when we first met through our children and he and Sandy invited us to come from Minnesota to meet them and their extended family. In spite of his health issues, he was so welcoming, hospitable and just plain friendly towards people he had never met that I couldn't help but be impressed by the man. Sadly, the world is a little worse off with his passing but I'm also sure that Heaven has gained just as much as we have lost. Rest in peace my friend.
