John will live forever in the many stories he has produced for all of our family. Gillian in particular tells the story of John driving the young Chip and Ricky up sand piles at a quarry in the jeep and the fantic response from Bee. At The George Washington University, her friends connect her with the stories of John and Dort climbing mountain passes too narrow to turn around in and John's becoming confused and Dort just driving up the pass and down the other side. Her East coast friends find such acts as uncomprehensable but to know John was to know these behaviors and love them. My memories are often so thick when it comes to John that I have trouble not creating a fictional component because he deserved that kind of rememberance. A man just on the edge of unbelievable, a kind of Paul Bunynan in God's own country.
There are not ever enough words but these are a few of mine.

Uncle John was a great uncle. He had that deep voice and mischevious laugh that meant he was about to tickle you. What fun to be a kid and go visit Fort Lupton.
Also, I remember he was the first to arrive the day our Dad died. That must have been a huge comfort for Mom.
We always got the greatest christmas presents from Dort and John. One year we thought we were the coolest kids on the block because we received transistor AM Radios - the kind that used a 9 volt battery.
Dort, Barbara, Susie and Jeanie - Please know you are in our prayers.

I will also remember John as the fun uncle who nibbled on my ears and tickled me when i was a little girl. He was so much fun and I have always enjoyed spending time with him!! He always made me smile. He was very kind and generous to others. The world is a better place because of John Grieve. Please accept my sympathies.
