Just an addition to my earlier post. I recently found this photo of my roommate Dan in the Wiess College lounge either January or February 1971. A good shot of a studious young Rice freshman.

I just saw the notice of Dan´s passing in the Rice magazine. Well, better late than never and I´m sure Dan´s glorious soul will appreciate a nod from his former roommate our freshman and sophomore years at Rice, 1970-72. What a great guy! He threw a fast and vigorous Frisbee, but we gave up trying to keep a Frisbee flying for twenty-four hours after about two hours in, at dawn. As Jeff pointed out I do recall his outrageous punning ability. I also enlisted him to act in a couple of plays that Kozmik Productions staged. And I remember discussing his switching from physics to English his senior year and getting why he wanted to do that, despite my initial surprise.

He could recite the value of pi to more digits than anyone else I´ve met. I enjoyed working with him.

Dan and I shared a suite at Rice his senior year and my junior year along with Michael Ytterberg and Jeff Finger. Dan decided in his senior year to abandon his pursuit of a physics major for this degree as an English major. This change seemed most appropriate as Dan was the master of the pun. We would play at stringing puns together with the subsequent pun always tying to its predecessor. Dan could always extend the string and often leave the remaining players at a loss for continuation.
We lost contact after graduation, and I am sad to learn of his passing. condolences to his family. I trust that the good times outweigh all others.
