Dorothy Rios Obituary

Dorothy Reddrick Rios, 92, died peacefully on Friday, May 3, 2013, after a brief illness. Memorial service: 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Stephen Presbyterian Church. Burial will be private. Dorothy will lie in state from noon Sunday until noon Tuesday at Thompson's Harveson & Cole Funeral Home. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations honoring Dorothy may be made to St. Stephen Presbyterian Church, 2700 McPherson Ave., Fort Worth, Texas 76109; or a charity of your choice. Dorothy was born Sept. 18, 1920, in Austin to Ernest and Madie McCullough Reddrick. She was an honor graduate from Austin High School and Brantley Draughon Business College. She met her future husband, Alfred Rios, while he was attending the School of Pharmacy at the University of Texas. They were married on June 13, 1942. After Al's return from service in World War II, they moved to Fort Worth. She was a member of St. Stephen Presbyterian Church for 62 years where she served on the Board of Women of the Church for several years. She was especially active in their Christian Outreach Program. Dorothy volunteered many hours in scouting, PTA and for the activities in which her children were involved. She worked for 20 years in the Accounting Department at Sears Roebuck. Dot and Al traveled worldwide and enjoyed parties with fellow travelers where they shared their "slide shows." She was an extraordinary seamstress and enjoyed playing bridge. Dorothy was as passionate about her family and friends as they were about her. Her family celebrates her wonderful life and will miss her dearly. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Alfred Rios, in 2002. Survivors: Her children, Ann Korman and her husband, Robert, of Fort Worth, Robert Rios and his wife, Aileen, of Corpus Christi, Sharon Campbell and her husband, Tom, of Fort Worth; grandchildren, Steven Korman, Brittany Rios and Matthew Rios; and niece, Dolores Brown and her husband, Karl, of Dallas.
