Dr Shoemaker and Governor Rhodes created a system of career-technical education that is admired across the country. His greatest contribution is the opportunities this system provides to thousands of students to learn the skills needed for rewarding careers.

My deepest sympathy to the family on Dr. Shoemaker's passing. I had the good fortune to meet him in the 1980s while going to Columbus during the VicaSkills competitions/leadership conference. He was so kind and enthusiastic about how well all the students were doing. You could tell his heart and soul were in vocational education. So glad to have known him...

Dr. Bryl Shoemaker will always be my number one hero; passion for career-tech, not just what you know but what you can do. Real champion for working men and women; the dignity of a job well done regardless of profession. A doer and very rare, special person. Rest in peace.

Ron and I are in FL and I check the obits every day hoping NOT to see names of anyone we know. While Ron didn't really know your dad, I knew him from a very young age. I remember him with a winning smile like the one posted here. Sorry we won't be home to visit and share in your loss, Judy, and ALL in the family. So glad to have seen your folks at Alice Golden's funeral. He was beloved by family and friends and we send you our deepest sympathy from afar. Love, Ron and Susie Rabold

What a magnificent man! I attended the Byrl R Shoemaker Conference for Vocational Education is 1986 at Denison University. He was a pioneer for vocational education and for that I am thankful. I am the youngest of 5 children all having graduated from the Vocational School in Belmont County Ohio. To this day we are all still actively employed in the areas that we studied there. I pray that God will comfort you and hold you during this most difficult time. What a legacy Byrl has left. God Bless!
