Curtis R. Gast, age 80, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, October 25, 2018. Born on April 18, 1938 in Sandusky, Ohio to the late J. Don and Alice Gast. Preceded in death by his parents, and brothers John and Ernie Gast. Survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Anne Gast; children, Steve (Patty) Gast, Laura (Dave) Limburg, Lynne (James) King and Beth (Sheldon) Johnston; and grandchildren, Eric and John Gast, Kai and Elin Limburg and Matthew, Emily and Tommy King. Family will receive friends on Saturday, November 3, 2018 from 1-3pm at the Schoedinger Northeast Chapel, 1051 E. Johnstown Road, Gahanna, Ohio, 43230, where a Celebration of Life Service will begin at 3pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Brookdale Hospice in Gahanna, Ohio. Pastor Curt Gast was a special,caring person who made a great impact on my Lutheran life. His wife Anne and children were blessed to have him as husband and father. I have kept them all in my thoughts and prayers. He is missed but is in the arms of God. God bless Anne an family.

To Anne and family, our deepest sympathies to you on the loss of Curt. Keith and I loved him very much. Kelly was so honored that Curt officiated at her and Erik's wedding. It meant the world to her. We are sorry that we could not attend the service because unfortunately, I lost my mother on October 20 and her service was on the same day as Curt's in Indianapolis.

Curt and I were classmates at Sandusky High School. We both started college at Ohio University, but for Curt, the stay was short. Perhaps 1 year at best.
Curt was an architectural major but his calling was really theology. My room in Washington Hall was directly above his room. Periodically, I visited him where he held several of us spellbound with his portrayal of a clergyman, complete with clerics' vestments--a white bed-sheet!
Shortly thereafter, Curt was off to Capital University followed by seminary. Karen, my wife, and I attended Curt's ordination at Zion Lutheran Church in Sandusky.
I lost contact until our 50th high school reunion. In fact, Karen and I joined Curt and his wife, Anne, at our reunion table.
Except for an occasional email and a letter or two, our friendship was again severed by distance. Curt in Ohio; myself in Oklahoma.
Years have gone by much too fast.

The finest words that come to mind, are that my mother, Joanne, so loved her oldest brother's family and strove to spend as much time as possible with them. The three nephews and their families were so dear to her, and she lamented that she was not able to spend more time with them. Through her love, Jody's children love.
Curt was a joy and will forever live in the hearts of those that knew him and those who hear the retelling of stories and memories.
