I am so sorry that I just heard about the passing of one of my favorite coaching buddies, Dan "Dupes" Dupler. What a servant he was to so many. He was one of the most unselfish people I know. If you had to sum Dupe up in one word I would pick "Giver." He gave his time, his money, his energy and his love to so many young people. Dupes, we can only pray that we had half the impact on young people that you did in your very honorable and successful career as an educator and coach. God, lend your ear to those of us who ask that you bring our friend into your Kingdom. Rest in Peace Buddy.

Just today, by accident, found out about "Coach D"'s passing. First met him 35 years ago during his stint at Watterson -- our infamous Class of '72 bootleg video will ALWAYS be my lasting memory of his legacy to my class...not to mention 27 years of helping him with his baby, the Central Ohio All-Star Game (1983-2009). Dupes, I just KNOW you and Mollick are having a great time together again....thanks for your passion, your dedication, and your love of kids in Central Ohio....and for your friendship and confidence in a one-time sports announcer-turned-editor who will always be grateful for allowing him to get behind a mic again. We've lost one of the truly great ones.

Moving forward we are going to miss you on this earth, but we are gadly waiting for that reunion in God's Kingdom. It is a pleasure and a Blessing to have met you. I am glad to have had your friendship for just a little while. See you soon.

Coach Dupes was the essence of football toughness. I could recognize that low raspy voice anywhere. Right now he's probably up in heaven "yelling at the angels to get it right," What an inspiration he was to me. And, Jamie, not sure if you remember, but, my son Justin played UA travel baseball with you. Your dad was a great man. I truly loved him.

Dan formed the Bishop Watterson track team in 72 , 73 . Unfortunatly we Didn't a track ; we ran in the parking . I remember using the curb as starting blocks and he would time us. Preview Leadership of expections was HIS Deal..I last joked with him 2007 at the state High School track meet at OSU. He was alone and seemed Humble at his health threat a year or two before. He was very wowed at the top talent at meet. I was with him when the High Jump record was broken. The power and the glory by William Manchester . Gods Speed....

This is a loss to our community. Dupes was a legend among so many as well as a leader, mentor, coach, and friend. I am so very grateful for the opportunity to spend some time with his family during the last year and seeing him with Ella, that little precious gift. My prayers and thoughts are with all the members of his family at this time. Know for sure, he will be looking over and protecting you now; just as he has done for all the years past. Rest in peace, Dupes. You will always be remembered!

When Dupes was born, they broke the mold. He was truly one of a kind, a unique and genuine person who always spoke his mind. It was an honor to play for him and years later to coach alongside him. If you never heard him give a pre-game pep talk, you really missed out. God speed Dupes.

I was greatly influenced by Coach Dupler while playing football at UA in the late 70's. I can still hear his gravelly voice saying "Dock, where would you rather be than right here, right now?...it just doesn't get any better!" everyday, rain or shine, practice or game night. he would ask me that... And except for my wedding and the birth of my two children I think he might have been right.
He made me a better player, student, and person. Being a husband and father, I know now he was teaching me how to be a man who is focused on the present, while learning from the past, and planning for the future. God Speed Dupes and THANK YOU.
