Kennard Frank L. Kennard, age 91, of Columbus, passed away on April 19, 2014, in Columbus. He was preceded in death by his wife Pauline (Polly). He is survived by his children, Martha Ligocki (Llewellyn), John V.O. Kennard (Linda), Nancy Pinder (Cliff), Larry Jameson (Cathy), Jody Kennard (Fred Sheldon), Sally Luaces (Noreen McTamney), Elizabeth Kennard (Patrick Donadio), Katherine Tucker (Mark); 15 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Born in Montclair, NJ, Frank graduated from Yale University with a B.S. in Economics. Commissioned in the US Army, he was a member of the 2nd Ranger Battalion in World War II; he participated in D-Day and subsequent campaigns until the end of the war in Europe when he was discharged as a First Lieutenant. He served as a bank executive for Union Commerce Bank of Cleveland and later Huntington Bank of Columbus. Formerly of Independence and Shaker Heights, OH, he and Polly retired to Keowee Key, SC before returning to Columbus in 2001. He was a member of First Community Church. A memorial service will be held on May 31, 2014 at 6:30 p.m. at First Community Church, 1320 Cambridge Blvd., Marble Cliff, OH. In lieu of flowers, friends may make memorial contributions to the Frank and Polly Kennard fund of the First Community Foundation or the National Ranger Memorial Association Scholarship Fund. I met Mr. Kennard at a Yale Reunion. I was walking through Berkeley College with my classmates from Yale Class of 1988 when I looked over and saw Mr. Kennard with a WWII Ranger Patch. As a fellow Ranger (Class 7-89) I immediately went over and he told me in captivating detail of his service during D-Day with 2nd Ranger Battalion. It was a privilege to meet him.
