Haifeng Wu Obituary

Wu Dr. Haifeng M. Wu, age 54, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family and friends on Monday, July 27, 2015 after a courageous five-year battle with cancer. Dr. Wu was born on April 10, 1961 to Zhichao Wu and Qiaorong Li in Dalian, P. R. China. He met his wife, Dr. LiHui "Lee" Xu at China Medical University in 1984 while both were pursuing their medical degrees. He later came to the United States in 1989, where he sought his post-doctoral training at The University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Haifeng then completed his residency training in Clinical Pathology at Duke University and Columbia University, followed by a Fellowship in Transfusion Medicine at the New York Blood Center. In April 2001, Haifeng began a new chapter at The Ohio State University as a tenure-track Assistant Professor. In 2008, he was promoted to tenured Associate Professor, later becoming a tenured Full Professor in June of 2015. During his tenure at Ohio State, Dr. Wu was Director of the Clinical Coagulation Laboratory and an innovative clinical laboratory, Biomarker Reference Lab that he has been directing until presently. Dr. Wu has numerous professional and academic achievements including Director of the Transfusion Medicine Fellowship Program from 2010-2012 at OSU and has authored more than 50 publications in high impact peer-reviewed journals. For more than 20 years, Dr. Wu's research has been successfully funded by federal agencies and industry sponsors including serving as Principle Investigator for a NIH R01 and U01 grants. Dr. Wu is known for his passion, dedication and hard work in all aspects of his life. He was not only an outstanding professor and physician, but also the quintessential husband and father. His altruistic and warmhearted personality was recognized and appreciated by all those he has touched. Dr. Haifeng M. Wu is survived by his beloved wife, Dr. LiHui Xu of 28 years; daughter, Trudy C. Wu; son, Alexander Y. Wu; parents, Zhichao Wu and Qiaorong Li; brothers, Haitao Wu and Mack "Hailin" Wu; and sister, Haimei Wu. Please join the family for service in honor of Dr. Wu's life and achievements at the SCHOEDINGER WORTHINGTON CHAPEL, 6699 North High Street Worthington, OH 43085. A visitation will take place on Sunday, August 2 from 4-7 p.m. (EDT) and a funeral service will be held on Monday, August 3 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Lee or Trudy's Pelotonia ride in honor of Dr. Haifeng Wu. Dr. Wu was always very sincere about his work and his patients. I enjoyed working with him in the apheresis department at OSUMC. I pray for comfort at this time for the family which he loved so much.
