Linda and Family,
I am so so sorry for you. I remember when I first came to ms back in 1994. Jim would talk to me for hours (literally) about traffic engineering, his career, and his knowledge of ms. (Smile.) We spent many hours together riding back and forth to Youngstown for meetings. He was the most precise person I have ever known - from his impecable handwriting and recordkeeping to his always-ironed white shirts. We talked many times about racing in general and Jeff Gordan specifically. In spite of his illness, he was one of the first at ms to send me a card after my brother passed unexpectedly last May. He was a good friend.

My deepest condolences to Jim's family & friends.

While I thought I was a pretty good study writer when ms hired me, Jim’s tutelage substantially improved my writing skills. He constantly threw down challenges and was gracious enough to help improve those who wished to listen and learn. I am forever in his debt because he forced me to hone my skills.

Despite Jim being a bit demanding sometimes, I understood that he wanted the best out of all of us. I try to pass that legacy forward wherever I work after ms, and strive to maintain integrity in my professional conduct and product; I doubt that I will be remembered for that, nor does it really matter. All I can hope is that the lessons I learned from Jim aren’t lost on my protégés: his weren’t lost on me.

To the family of Jim Bixby, please accept my condolences.

Jim and I were neighbors in the 1950's when he lived on E. Schreyer Place (I lived on E. Dominion). We went to North High School and sometimes when the weather was good, we walked to school--just about 3 miles. I doubt if many students walk that far today.

I remember Jim always had a new, creative idea in his head about something going on in the world, so we always had a good conversation on our walks.

I'll always remember Jim as a genuine, decent human being. We have lost a wonderful person.

Linda and Family: While I did not know Jim personally I could sense his presence at ms consultants in the wonderful description of him and kind words said by all who mentioned his name. He leaves that legacy. I know that there will be a void at the company without him. May God grant you strength and comfort in the days ahead. With Respect and Sincerity.

Linda, Jill, and Bill,
Please accept my most sincere sympathies. As you know, I worked with Jim for more than 30 years. He was a great mentor, kept very high standards, and was always firm but fair. Those who new him well enough will also miss his quick wit and reserved sense of humor. Jim.... your presence will be missed by many. May your view from above include the majestic mountains and historic landmarks you so loved to visit in your travels.

I will always remember Jim for his friendship and ability to make all of us better people for knowing him. I will never forget that Jim was one of those leaders who helped me succeed in the beginning of my career with traffic and safety. He was one of the first consulting engineers I met in his office off Indianola Ave. in Columbus in 1985 when I was with the old Crouse-Hinds group. My background was in public works and I was just learning about traffic engineering. He could have asked me to leave, but instead, he and his staff there always welcomed me and helped teach me more than I ever could tell them. It's that attitude that bonded Jim to his peers. He was a real pro. I won't forget that.

I will remember Jim as a very serious straight-laced engineer and manager. But despite these traits and a generation gap Jim was someone I could laugh with. His passion for his work will continue to be an inspiration to me.
