I was looking to refer a friend to Dr Kreuz and learned he had gone on to be with the Lord. I immediately became deeply saddened. Dr Kreuz helped me process through so many things in my life and ultimately helped me become a better woman. He will be deeply missed.

I just learned of John's passing, so sorry I missed the services. John was my buddy at the Ohio Dept of Mental Health; he was the kindest man I've known. One thing everybody knows about John is that he loved his wife and children. Sharon, I am so sorry for your loss; I have no doubt that John is with our Lord and Savior. May God grant you His peace, comfort, strength, and surround you with His love during the days ahead.

To the Kreuz family

On behalf of the Saint Francis DeSales High School community please accept our sympathy on your loss. John was a wonderful, caring man who made everyone he met richer for the experience.

The Saint Matthias and Saint Francis DeSales communities have lost a model of faith, love, and compassion. The true definition of success is a person who leaves the world a better place than they found it. John Kreuz personified this definition fully.

May his family and friends find peace knowing that we have another angel in paradise. John's
Legacy will live through his loved ones. May perpetual light shine upon him.

Peace and God's Blessings

So very sorry for your loss. I have many fond memories of growing up next door to your family on Willy's. The Grubbs, the ice rink in the back yard many winters, four-square in the driveway, and playing over at your house. I remember John as always kind.

John spent three years with me on my own personal and spiritual journey. He was my guide during this time as I was able to learn some things about my past that have haunted me my entire life. He helped me understand who God truly is. He encouraged me as I was moved to end my 11 year teaching career to enroll in a local seminary and get my counseling degree as he saw that my soul was yearning for it. I am a better person today because of the work that God did through him. I can only pray that I will be half the professional that he was and I'll be doing pretty good if that becomes the case. My thoughts and prayers are with you, his family and friends, and I honor the man that helped me discover who I truly am.

Dear Sharon & family;
I have many fond memories of John. The time you were dating (when Sharon, you lived in the next building). your wedding...so much more. One that truly reflects John's character--It was an extremely hot, summer, day & I was working at The Faith Mission. In came John with kids in tow, bringing us fans!! He told me that they bought them because they knew that our Homeless Guests would be sweltering! Even though we didn't see each other often, John (& Sharon) always made me feel as though we saw each other all the time. John was a wonderful friend & I will miss seeing him!
I wish I could do something to help you through this difficult time. Know that I am praying for you & am always here!
I'm proud & honored to say that I was friends with, loved by & loved John!

I got to know John after high school in Toledo. He went to St Francis de Sales and I went to Central. He was involved in the general spiritual renewal movement in the late 60s and early 70s. He attended St Meinrad after I did, back in the 70s.

The thing that stands out to me about John is his spirituality. I think of him as formed in the spirit of St Francis de Sales -- someone who knew he was deeply loved by God and who responded by selflessly loving.

I remember the gospel reading at John's and Sharon's wedding. It's not a gospel text you'd expect to hear at a wedding. It was the story of Zacchaeus in Lk 19:1ff. As Jesus is passing through Jericho, Zacchaeus, because he is short in stature (John and Sharon?), climbs a tree to see Jesus. Jesus calls Zacchaeus down from the tree and dines with him in his home that day.

There's no doubt in my mind that John and Sharon welcomed Jesus into their home daily and were as generous with themselves as Zacchaeus was after meeting Jesus (he gave 1/2 his possessions to the poor).

Zacchaeus was a tax collector and thought of by many as a sinner. I suspect John saw himself as somewhat of a sinner, but more importantly, as healed by the love of Jesus: A wounded healer. Such a gifted attitude for a counselor to have.

John lived out his spirituality as a loving husband, father, brother, friend, and counselor. Those who knew him were graced by God for the experience.

Sharon and family,

I wish there was something I could do or say to ease your sadness over John's passing. Please know that he was a good friend and a kind and giving man. He was one of my best friends growing up, both in grade school at St. Catherine's and in high school at St. Francis. The vast bulk of my memories growing up in Toledo involve John. Thinking about this … realizing it is, well, amazing to me. He was a part of my youth, one of my best buds, one of the group I hung out with, one of the kids I walked to and from school with, sat in class with, screwed around with, got in trouble with (and sometimes because of), rode bikes with, threw snowballs with, shot baskets with, and joked with. A lot of what I am includes a whole lot of him. As long as I am here a part of him will be here too and I am profoundly glad of that. I am sad, yes, but when I think of him over all those years I smile a lot as well. He was fun! So much fun! And that smiling with him, laughing with him is what he was, still is, and always will be. I would not give up one tenth of one second of those times we spent together. When I think of him I am young again, running and playing and laughing, and I am just a couple blocks from home.
