Kaye Michele Darling, age 69, passed peacefully September 12, 2017, after seven years of gracefully and courageously enduring primary progressive aphasia, a neurological syndrome that impairs language capabilities. She was smart, funny, talented, and beautiful, inside and out. She is loved and sorely missed by her family and friends. In her youth, she enjoyed cheerleading, dance, and gardening. For several years, she won ribbons for her plants and terrariums at the Ohio State Fair. After graduating from Columbus North High School, she earned her B.F.A. and M.A. in Arts Education from Ohio State. She studied at L'Académie de la Grande Chaumière in Paris. She also secured a paralegal certificate from Capital University and worked in that field for several years. She was an accomplished artist. Her work can be seen in The Land We Call Ohio, a 2003 project of The Ohio Historical Society and the Ohio Plein Air Society that features paintings and profiles from all 88 Ohio counties. She was an extraordinary teacher who was dedicated to helping students develop their talents, exhibit their work, and earn college scholarships. She taught at Columbus College of Art and Design, Beck St. Elementary School, Eastland Career Center, and Fort Hayes Arts and Academic High School. Kaye Michele was preceded in death by her father Stanton G. Darling, and her mother Carolyn (Kay) Miceli Darling. She is survived by her daughter, Burgundie Miceli, and her partner, Aaron Ijams; her brother, Stanton G. Darling II (Julie A. Carroll Darling); and her nephews, Stanton G. Darling III (Heather), Stephen M. Darling, Vincent F. Cirivello, Jr., (Leah) and son, Anthony, and Frank V. Cirivello III. We are grateful to the entire staff at Ohio Living Westminster-Thurber and especially at Bridgewater for their remarkable care for Kaye Michele and loving support of all of us during her final years.
