Mary Leona Karst

1929 - 2015

Karst Mary Leona Karst (Starkey) of Gahanna left this world under her terms from complications of an extended illness on February 21, 2015. She was born on July 2, 1929 in Barberton, Ohio to the late Clarence Starkey and Bernice Cramer. She was a longtime waitress at the Top Steakhouse, Fisherman's Wharf on Morse Road and the Broad-Nel Restaurant that was owned and operated by her husband's brothers, George and John Karst. Mary loved to crochet and made beautiful baby blankets and booties that touched so many lives. She loved to travel and take the occasional trip to her favorite casinos. She was a loving, giving, compassionate individual and care giver to so many others in her lifetime. Mary is preceded in death by her husband Robert W. Karst, Sr., daughter Mary Katherine Pabst, siblings Clarence Starkey, Jean Foor, Gerald "Pete" Starkey. Mary is survived by her son, Danny E. (Patty) McQuirt, Jr.; stepchildren, Robert (Patti) Karst, Jr., Sandra Darrah, Thomas (Joyce) Karst; son-in-law, Michael Pabst; grandchildren, Shiloh (Barbie) Pabst, Patrick McQuirt, Stephanie (Joe) Swords, Matthew McQuirt, William (Marilin) Karst, Brandon Karst, Britni Karst, Max (Kimber) Darrah, Sam Darrah and Alex Darrah; great grandchildren, Logan and Lily Pabst, Julian Karst; special cousin, Beth (Roger) McCune; many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews, along with dear friends and special neighbors. A Memorial Service will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, February 28, 2015 at the SCHOEDINGER NORTHEAST CHAPEL, 1051 E. Johnstown Rd. (at Beecher Rd.), Gahanna, where the family will receive friends from 3 p.m. until the time of the service. Celebrant Andrew Hoover officiating.
