Raymond Glock Obituary

Glock, Raymond
Raymond Layne Glock (aka Butch/Wally/Ray/Gator), age 72, lifelong resident of West Jefferson, passed away Tuesday, September 4, 2018. He was a proud Army veteran who served in Vietnam. Upon his return from the war, he got a job working for General Motors, and retired from there after 30 years. He was a longtime member of the VFW Post 7005, and served two terms as Commander. An avid motorcyclist, he rode all over the country with his wife, friends, and his special cousin Carl DeLong. Those who knew and loved him will miss his gorgeous smile, ornery sense of humor, and most of all, his big, beautiful heart. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary (Sparks) Glock, his mother Martha Cox, brother Charles Cox, and sister Louise Lambert. He is survived by his wife, Jane (McIntire) Glock; children, Lori Barton, Paul "Tony" (Andrea) Glock, and Kathleen "Nicci" Ramey; grandchildren, Dylan Gibson, Sara and Joshua Barton, and Martin "Chet" Eldridge; great-granddaughter, Aspen Eldridge; sister, JoAnn Patterson; many nieces, nephews and great friends. Funeral service 12 Friday at Rader-McDonald Tidd Funeral Home, 1355 West Main Street, West Jefferson, where family will receive friends from 10 am-12 pm. Burial will follow at Hampton Cemetery. It was Raymond's request that friends dress casually for his services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to VFW Post 7005.

We will all miss Ray. He was the best neighbor anyone could ask for. Always willing to lend a hand or give valuable advice. Even taking me to work once when I locked my keys in the house. Over the years he became more than just our neighbor he became a wonderful friend. He was always treating the kids to some special snack earning a place in their hearts, and their bellies. He always encouraged them in their scouting and school activities, and probably bought more girl scout cookies (do so dos) than he ever thought he would. Rest in peace Wally. You will never be forgotten. Jane you will continue to be in our prayers.

Thank you for your service to our country and being a friend to my brother (Brian) and his wife (Susie).

I have always been impressed with your "Band of Vietnam Brothers" (and Family) which served you all so well - allowing you all to have a safe place to meet, remember, help and commensurate with and for each other. That is dedication and respect - RIP Ol' Soldier!
