I remember Ron's beautiful voice and it really caused me pain during his funeral services. He was an award winning singer (won HS state awards and All Navy Talent) and I was OK in the funeral services during any talking, but I could not sing. I'd get a couple notes out and start crying. Just thinking about it chokes me up. While the Lancaster Men's Chorus (of which he was a member and soloist) sang the Lord's Prayer, I was sobbing quietly and my son, Mike, moved over to comfort me. There were a few more words and then we sang the Navy Hymn and I was able to sing all the verses with Mike by my side. He gave me the strength to do it. I don't think I ever realized how much strength you can draw from another person.

Ron also gave us all strength and the belief that we must do what is right regardless of the cost. As your neighbor for many years on Vine Street and friend for even longer, we lived through so many things. You know them well, Barb.

Ron taught us that hard work never hurts and always pays off. He certainly worked hard on everything he tackled and he succeeded through perseverance. Now Ron leaves us this leagcy of beautiful music, strength, honesty, integrity and humor.

We're gonna miss ya, Ron.

Dear Ron,

I've known you for close to 30 years. Many times over at Cecil and Charlotte's on Swisher Road. We'd have iced tea and we'd all talk. Real loud, so Pappy could hear everything! Every family reunion you were there, and had a full plate! I mean every time I looked! Ha! You were always very nice to me. I will miss you. But I'll see you again one day.

Best,

I love you so very much and I am so sorry I haven't visited recently. Uncle Ron was a wonderful man and one of the few I ever truly bonded with after Daddy. One of my favorite memories is when he took me to the driving range. He was a truly special person and he will be missed greatly. I love you so much and I will be visiting soon. You are in my prayers.

I can only express my deepest thoughts and sympathy and my prayers go out to Barb, the family and all the many friends Ron had. In the coming days alot of us are going to be reflecting the many experiences we shared with Ron; All the expeirences in the blue uniform to tee-ing it up on the back nine to walking out in the woods at some god awfull hour in the snow to go hunting, Maybe even having a beer or two with him. As well we should! But what I'm going to miss most about him is something he didnt posess, its what he earned from others. RESPECT. Respect isn't something that your taught like to love or to care for others. He earned the respect of everybody that he came in contact with. As I reflect, it's all those years I was able to spend time with Ron down at the "Hunting Cabin". I never called him CHIEF like some of the others who had worked under him. They still called him CHIEF because of the respect they had for him. I never called him CHIEF because I always told him I never worked for him.(just to get under his skin a little!) Which was fine to him. But as Ron moves on to a higher means, he will always have a special place in my heart and I hope my kids to be have a little bit of Ron Shaw in them.

Thanks CHIEF, your friend, Steve

p.s. tell our dads we said hi and we miss them!
