Rose E. Dickey (VanHouten), age 80, of Whitehall, Ohio, passed away April 21, 2021 surrounded by loved ones. Born on March 1, 1941 to the late Virgil and Olive VanHouten in Defiance, Ohio. The family moved to Columbus where Rose married and traveled the country as a military wife before settling in Whitehall, Ohio. Rose worked for Whitehall City School system as a custodian from 1979 until she retired in 2003. During her time with the schools Rose made many friends and forged many relationships. Rose seemed to know someone everywhere she went. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and she had a great sense of humor and big heart. Rose was very creative and could fix or make just about anything. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her grandson Michael Albright. Rose is survived by her three children, John (Kate) Dickey, Linda (Ray) Hoetger, and Pamela (Fred) Albright; her grandchildren, Samantha Dickey, Ryan, Shawn, Jeff, Kyle Hoetger, and Chris and Andrew Albright. Rose is also survived by two sisters; a brother; and several great grandchildren. Rose died peacefully in her residence at The Woodlands of Columbus and was under the wonderful care of Heartland Hospice. She will be dearly missed and will remain forever in the hearts of her family and friends. Friends may visit Monday, April 26 from 4-6pm at the DWAYNE R. SPENCE FUNERAL HOME, 650 W.
