Steven L. Salman

SALMAN Steven L. Salman, September 18, 1947 - June 24, 2012, a longtime health care executive and early pioneer in the industry, died on June 24, after a short, but hard-fought battle against liver cancer, he was 64 years old. Born in Indianapolis, Mr. Salman earned a B.S. in Business Administration from Indiana University and a J.D. from Capital University Law School in Columbus, Ohio. Steve Salman had more than forty years experience in insurance, medical malpractice insurance, and healthcare risk management. He was repeatedly sought out by companies seeking to form or reengineer a medical liability insurance company. Prior to forming Global Insurance Management Company and the Healthcare Underwriters Groups of FL, OH and KY in 2003, Salman was President and CEO of ProNational Insurance Company and Kentucky Medical Insurance Company; and Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs and General Counsel for Sisters of Charity Health Care Systems, Inc. in Cincinnati, Ohio. He also served as President and CEO of Sisters of Charity's medical malpractice insurance subsidiary, MSJ Insurance Company and on the board of trustees for the Franciscan Health System in Ohio. He was the founding President of the American Society for Healthcare Risk Management (ASHRM) of the American Hospital Association. He authored numerous articles, and was co-author of the Handbook of Healthcare Risk Management. Steve Salman is survived by his wife, Susan Salman; his children, Joshua and Sara; and daughter-in-law, Laurie; grandsons, Luke and Jake; and his brother, Gregg Salman. A private service was held in Fort Lauderdale.
