Walter Lafferre Obituary

Lafferre, Walter
1928 - 2017
Walter E. "Gene" Lafferre, 89, most recently of Marysville and previously of Oxford, FL, died Sunday, December 3, 2017 at the Kobacker House in Columbus surrounded by his loving family. In his early years, Gene was a veteran of the U.S. Army, worked at North American, in the oil fields as a tool dresser then worked most of his life as a finish carpenter and for the Hilliard Post Office from which he retired. Gene was one of Jehovah's Witnesses and served as a minister and elder at Kingdom Halls in Ohio and Florida. He also was quite the mechanic, one who was always one to "do it himself." If he did not know how to repair or build something, he would learn. Gene helped build many of the Kingdom Halls in the Columbus area. Born February 10, 1928 in Lewisville, he was the son of the late Ivan Orlando and Grace Elizabeth (Spence) Lafferre. On June 25, 1954, he married his wife of 63 years, Dora (Mallett) Lafferre, and she survives in Marysville. Also surviving are his children, Barbara Lowe (Doyle) Rausch of Marysville and Joseph Dean (Erica) Lafferre of Columbus; grandchildren, Ariana (Casey) Myers of Hilliard, Trevor (Angela) Lowe of Marysville, Dorian Lafferre of Columbus and Kaylina Ruth of Columbus; great grandchildren, Harper and Max Myers and Gunnar Lowe; a brother, Chauncey Dean (Doris) Lafferre of West Virginia and a sister, Helen Georgiana Lafferre of Ocala, FL. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, December 16, 2017 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses 17700 Echo Dr. Marysville, OH. Max Foust will officiate and burial will take place at a later date. Friends may call one hour prior to the service or after the service at Kingdom Hall. Memorial contributions can be made to the Worldwide Work at www.JW.org. Arrangements are being handled by Wilson Funeral Home, Mannasmith Chapel and condolences may be sent to the family at www.wilsonfuneralhomesinc.com
