William Voska Obituary

Voska William "Bill" Anthony "Bumpa" Voska, age 84, joined his beloved wife on Tuesday, June 13, 2017. He was born August 14, 1932 in Flint, Michigan to the late Anna and Charles Voska. Bill is preceded in death by his wife Joyce, son Ross, daughter Sydney, sister Patricia. Bill graduated from Flint High School, Flint, MI. In 1954 he graduated from Alma College, Alma MI where he majored in Sociology and Psychology. Bill was a leader in the Alma Christian Association, Student Council, played guard for the football team, and was a member of the Delta Gamma Tau fraternity. After college Bill started his career as an insurance salesman for Allstate Insurance Co. In 1972 he joined Frankenmuth Mutual Insurance Co. where he served as Personnel, Facilities and Fleet Manager for 20 years until his retirement in 1992. He was involved in numerous community activities from his Friday afternoon Euchre games at the Corner Tavern to being a director for United Way. He was also a member of the Frankenmuth Lion's Club where he organized the Chicken BBQ during the Bavarian Festival week and was President of the PTA. Bill and Joyce cared for over 30 newborns who were loved and nurtured until adoption. The neighborhood kids would knock on the door to see if Bill could come out to play. They moved to Columbus OH, in 1992 to be with their two grandsons, Nicholas and Petrov. Retirement wasn't for him so he worked for Honda, the City of Dublin and lastly as a sales clerk with The Andersons store. Friends and Family were very important to him. His Slovak heritage was also close to his heart and he made multiple trips to Czech Republic to trace his ancestry. He became an honorary member of Katerina Slavikova's family. Bill was never a stranger to anyone who met him. He always had a story to tell... over and over...lol. He and Joyce greatly enjoyed having theme dinners, playing bridge, traveling and visiting with their wonderful neighbors. They especially liked hanging out with their much loved extended family, the Lannan clan, who Bill was always telling people about. He is survived by daughter, Kim A. Bill lived in my condo community and I often saw him at our monthly coffee and donuts gatherings. I also saw him when he would go to get his mail and I remember passing by his garage and seeing him reading and smoking his cigars. I wish now that I had taken time to stop and chat with him as I cut through the driveways on my way back from walks in the park. Go With God, Bill! Now you are at peace.

I met Bill when I moved my brother next door. During the move, Bill was a constant joy, visiting and keeping his eye on the condo next door. I will always remember his kindness and willingness to help. Rest in peace, it was a pleasure to know him. Mary Lou Graham/Zane Fennell
