I am thinking of you today, Mrs. Meyer, and on many other days throughout the year.
I think how wonderful that you started your son, Steven, in music. And, I think that today you would be so proud of the work he does with the Golden Gate Boys Choir, even if it´s hard sometimes.
May you be remembered with love for all eternity

Thinking of you today, Mrs. Meyer, and sending love. We miss seeing you around, but know you are here in other ways. Your presence is here in all the good things your son, Steven, is doing w/ his music and the GGBC. And that is beautiful

Over the years, I knew John and Bernice Meyer, but mostly from a distance of many miles.
Later, when Steve brought them home to Hayward about a year ago, I began to know them more. A lovely couple they were, and I feel privileged to have known them.
I see much, and, over a lifetime, I have seen much. But never ever have I seen the love, the care, and the gentleness that Steve gave to his parents so they would be comfortable and happy. Their care wasn't easy as they were getting older and older. But Steve didn't complain~ he never complained. This is so amazing to me.
Also amazing, and so beautiful, is that God took both John and Bernice to Heaven practically together to be with Him there. I thought of that a lot during John Meyer's Requiem Mass, and those thoughts were very beautiful and very comforting.
May John and Bernice live on and on in people's memories and hearts.
And may they continue to touch our lives.

Many prayers for the family of Bernice and John Meyer. To lose a parent is terribly difficult, but to lose both within a month is heartbreaking. I attended the Wakes and Funeral Masses for both Bernice and John and have never experienced more beautifully planned out services. The readings, hymns, and particularly the music selections were a testament to the love of a son who wanted to honor his parents with the same gift of music they gave to him. It was like heaven sent it's angels to sing to us here on earth, giving us a glimpse of what Bernice and John have in store for them....and hopefully us to follow.
May God Bless the entire Meyer family during this difficult time, and may He guide them to find joy and love together in their lives.

First of all, let me offer you my condolences on the death of your wife and mother.
Secondly, I am W.J. Kennedy, M.D.'s daughter, Margaret Ann. I can't tell you how deepley I and the rest of my family were touched by the mention of our father in your wife's/mother's obituary. It is such a comfort to realize that he lives on in people's memories and through their children.

EULOGY for BERNICE MEYER

I don't remember when or where I met Bernice 30 some years ago. What I remember is her friendly smile and the ease she made me comfortable. It was like second nature to her. I often dropped by their house at Larchmont St. to do many choir projects with Steven. Bernice made me feel like I'm part of the family. If you feel tired, she said, lie down on the couch and use the afghan to keep you warm. She'd invite me for lunch while I'm there, even for some special dinners with friends.
One day, I woke up not feeling well and told her I couldn't go with them to watch the performance of the Boys' Choir at summer camp under the direction of Steven. She told me to take a hot shower so I would feel better. Wow, what power of persuasion she had! I ended up enjoying not only the choir but also the 2-hr drive with Bernice and John to Sonoma.
Bernice had a passion for life and for people, as evident in her yearly Christmas letters. She has strong opinions and an accurate assessment of character. She asserted herself when she wanted to move to a house surrounded by nature on a road less travelled. John, the ever supportive husband said: Go find your dream house and buy it. Next Christmas, she was ecstatic, writing about their little house on the bluff of a little Washington town. When Eric and I visited them they gave us a day to remember. Eric fell in love with the quaint A-frame house that exudes their warmth and hospitality. He photographed every section of it, while I photographed the surrounding trees, lupines and salmon berries. It was her little patch of heaven. It was a “little Switzerland.”
To return their hospitality after a boat ride and picnic, Eric asked where we can take them out to eat. She said, right here in my kitchen. Yes, she was a great cook, too. She warmed the tummies of many a visiting friend at this charming chalet, or even just dropping by friends at the Choir Central in Hayward.
Another patch of heaven to Bernice is the dance floor. She was a picture of joy, vigor and youth as she danced around with John in a very fast Swiss waltz tempo. My God! I couldn't keep up with her.

John, Steve, Ken & Marc, I have no words only beautiful memories of a lady who had a way of lifting folks spirits. Her artistic notes to my parents brought them joy & smiles. Can sure see Bernice upstairs joining the chorus of Angels. May she Rest in Peace. May your grief be comforted by the Angels.
