Lamar E. Rassi, 71, of LaPorte, formerly of Elkhart, passed away at home on Thursday, April 24, 2025, after battling with extended health issues. His wife and family were at his side.
He was born on May 19, 1953, in Goshen, Indiana, to Leonard and Katherine Rassi. He was the middle of three sons. He lived most of his life in the Elkhart, Goshen area. He and his wife moved to LaPorte, Indiana, in 2021.
He is survived by his wife of 50 wonderful years, Gale J. Rassi. They were married Oct. 26, 1974. Also surviving are one son, Joshua (Elizabeth) Rassi; three grandchildren, Abigail, Isabelle and Leonard Rassi; and two brothers, Gary (Juanita) and Kevin Rassi.
He graduated from Goshen High School, Class of 1971. He was active in track and field. He had record high jump and shot put. He graduated from Maranatha Baptist University in 1984.
He worked at Shaum Electric for many years and Ivy Tech in Elkhart, Indiana. He enjoyed collecting hot wheels and spending time with his family and grandkids.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will take place Friday, May 2, from 4 to 6 p.m. Eastern time (3 to 5 p.m. Central time), at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 405 W. Beardsley Ave., Elkhart, IN 46514.
