Earl Shriver Obituary

Mr. Earl E. Shriver, 82, of Dewey, died at 6:10 A.M. on Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at the Medicalodge of Dewey.
Funeral services for Mr. Shriver will be held at 2 P.M. Friday, October 21, 2011 at the Dewey United Methodist Church with Rev. Rick Robart officiating. Interment will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery directed by the Stumpff Funeral Home & Crematory.
Casket escorts will include Bryce Maye, Jake Maye, Kyle Hough, Steve Shriver, Jon Shriver and John Purdum.
A memorial has been established and those who wish may send their contributions to the Dewey United Methodist Church, 618 N. Delaware, Dewey, Oklahoma, 74029.
Mr. Shriver was born in Bartlesville on December 3, 1928 the son of Chester M. and Mary Louise (White) Shriver. He grew up in the area west of Dewey, attended Dewey Schools and graduated from Dewey High School in 1946. He entered the United States Marine Corps on July 12, 1946 and served until receiving his Honorable Discharge on January 23, 1948. He then attended Southwestern State at Weatherford, Oklahoma where he received his Associates Degree in electronics. He returned to this area where he was employed with Phillips Petroleum Company and later transferred within the company to the Applied Automations Division where he retired as an electronics technician 1985. Mr. Shriver was married to Carol Jean (Ray) Maye on December 26, 1971 and they have made their home in Dewey since that time. He was a member of the Dewey United Methodist Church where he had sung in the church choir and had also made the new stained glass windows on the west side of the church. Mr. Shriver was active as a woodcarver and each year, he and Mrs. Shriver would travel to War Eagle, Arkansas and Crete, Nebraska where he taught woodcarving. He also led the woodcarving class at the Washington County Adult Center in Dewey. He was a past member and past president of the Dewey Kiwanis Club and had served as a Dewey city councilman.
Mr. Shriver is survived by his wife, Mrs. Carol Jean Shriver of the home in Dewey, two daughters, Jennifer Jean Shriver of Tahlequah and Jeanie Hough and her husband Terry of Rogers, Arkansas, two sons, Tommy Maye of Tulsa and Todd Maye and his wife Tina of Coweta, a son-in-law, Quinton Pierce of Tulsa, one brother, C.R. Shriver and his wife Sandy of Dewey, a brother-in-law, Charles Ray and his wife Carolyn of Dalhart, Texas, a sister-in-law, Ruby Purdum Sonnenfeld of Bartlesville, eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Mr. Shriver was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, James Shriver and his wife Betty and Calvin Purdum and by one daughter, Teresa Louise Pierce.

Earl was a lifelong friend and classmate at the Dewey schools his talent help me build a state of the art saddle rack a few years back. Carol, you are in our prayers. Bill Johnson (class of 1946) Houston, Texas.
