ANN SHOEMAKER, 80
Gainesville - Ann Shoemaker Corbin passed away peacefully on December 14, 2016, at North Florida Rehabilitation Center with her daughter Coralee by her side.
Ann was born May 9, 1936, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada to Dr. James S. and Edith Shoemaker. The family moved to Guelph, Ontario, Canada, when she was 4 to be closer to family in the area. Ann came to Gainesville in 1956 with her parents. She attended UF, was a Tri-Delt sorority member and two semesters shy of graduating as an Art History major. Ann worked for the University of Florida for 35+ years until her retirement in the mid 1990's. Many of these years were happily spent advising foreign students as they entered and became 'Gators' at the University of Florida. Ann was a Guardian Ad Litem and Respite Care volunteer for many years. She was also a member and former elder of Emmanuel Mennonite Church of Gainesville. Ann had a love of world history, geography, genealogy, ice skating, collecting tea pots, knitting, Turkish culture and cuisine, and entertaining in her home with close friends from church.
Ann was predeceased by her parents Dr. J.S. and Edith Shoemaker; her sister, Daria Harry and son, Lesley Corbin.
She leaves behind her daughter, Coralee Corbin of Gainesville, Fl. and grandson, Andrew Corbin of Orlando, Fl.
Burial will be at a later date in Montreal, Quebec, Canada

Ann was such a perfect hostress when visting her home. She was always gracious and made you feel welcome in her home. She passed this legacy on to her daughter. Fond memories of her as a member of the Dogwood Garden Club Circle.
