DEBORAH SENDAX Obituary

SENDAX,
DEBORAH DeLAND
Deborah DeLand Sendax or 'Aunt Debbie' as her Gainesville friends lovingly called her, died on Tuesday, June 26, 2018, at the age of 82. Debbie was born in 1936, in New York City (NYC) where she graduated from the Chapin School in 1953. She attended Vassar College for two years before marrying and moving to Chambersburg, PA, where she and her first husband ran a dairy farm until 1968. She then returned with her daughters, to NYC, where she remained for the next thirty years. She remarried briefly, had another daughter, divorced, and in 1999, moved to Gainesville, FL.
While in NYC, Debbie was a long-time member of two venerable amateur theater clubs. She participated both in front of, and behind the curtain as both actor and production assistant. At that time, she also developed a great interest in Tarot. In glittering Chanel and a flash of diamond on the elegant fingers fanning the cards, she became much in demand for her readings at private parties and charity benefits throughout the City. After leaving NYC and moving to Gainesville, she renewed her other longstanding passion for sewing and quilting. Her friends gave her the sobriquet, 'Thread Artist'. Some of her original and whimsical quilts, for example, became nationally known and sought after.
Debbie had a joyous spirit, generous heart and a boundless enthusiasm for life. She had a remarkable sense of humor and was full of love and laughter for all. Debbie was an immensely capable woman but always remained deeply humble about her talents and abilities. She was a true original and our memories will keep her with us for years to come.
Debbie leaves behind her sister, four beloved daughters, four grandsons, and her nephew and niece-in-law, Robin and Kathy Hendrickson of Gainesville, all of whom will greatly miss her. Please direct any contributions to Hospice of Gainesville who treated Debbie and her family with consummate kindness and compassion.

Deb was one of the first members of the Quilters of Alachua County Day Guild who introduced herself to me in 2005, and one of the reasons I joined - LOVED her energy! I always admired her spirit and thoughts and how everyone had a place in her life. Godspeed, Deb, with much love, Marwin

"Darling Deb" you are greatly missed! Who will know all the double references and answers to the NY Times Crossword puzzles? Who will remember the dead whale on the corner or Sam and Gracie?
Who will I ever borrow gowns from again? Your old beach housemate! lovingly Robert O'Rourke
