I just learned of Pete's passing and am so sorry to hear that. I met him 30 years ago when the produce company I drove for gassed up where he worked. He rebuilt an automatic transmission for me and I proceeded to put many miles on it without having it checked. The transmission failed. My wife and I had two young children and didn't have two nickels to rub together. Pete knew that and I will never forget the kind way he blamed the problem on that particular transmission (not the person who abused it ) and rebuilt it again for next to nothing (parts only?).That was Pete;so kind and generous! I would go years without seeing him and he would always greet me by my first and last name with a smile and twinkle in his eye. He will be missed. Rest in peace Pete.

He was a gifted mechanic and always honest with his customers. He worked on several of our older cars and trucks over 10 years. We first went to his shop when it was on 16th Street too. Bless his family and Thank you Pete!!

OMG, I just learned about Pete! Meeting him about 20 years ago changed my life. I was living paycheck to paycheck, and he extended me credit. No matter what the problem, Pete would get my car back on the road and let me pay in installments. What a stress-reliever, knowing I'd always have reliable transportation. He cared. He got an award for letting a homeless man stay in a van there at night and sweep up. I bought my last three or four cars from him. The current one, a 1998 Toyota, was the most expensive, bought in 2010 for $2,500, and thanks to Pete's, it's still running great. I know the shop's in good hands, but Pete leaves a big hole in my heart.

I got to know Pete when I coached his son Brad on the Buchholz golf team. Pete was extremely supportive in every way. He went above and beyond every expectation and he was that way with everything he did. There is a special place in heaven for people as kind and generous as Pete. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Pete was one of the most pleasant, fun, sweet people we ever knew. He bailed me out many times when my car wouldn't start and he and Ken always had a great time on the golf course. He was also very brave. We saw him recently and he never even mentioned being sick. We will miss him and hope your good memories will sustain you in this time of loss.

I have been very saddened since hearing of Pete's death. He was my mechanic for 20 years. He worked on my cars, my kids' cars, my friends' cars. Pete was always there for me, and always gave me honest, reliable service. I saw him several times a year, including not long ago, and it felt like losing a friend, when I heard the news. My heart goes out to his family and loved ones.

They say the "Good die young". People who know Pete know he was nothing short of Good and he was far to young to leave us. We know what Pete was going through health wise and living that way was not the Pete we all knew and loved. You will be missed my friend by so many lives you touched. We will gather this Saturday to " celebrate the life of a Very Special Man"! May God Bless and Keep You.

Pete Hines was a great guy who loved his family, his friends, watching Maryland Terrapins and Florida Gators football. Back when all our boys were in Cub Scouts, Pete always stepped forward as a parent-volunteer, no questions asked. We've been gone from Gainesville for several years but will always remember Pete, his friendliness, generosity and good natured personality.

Pete was a wonderful father to three fantastic sone. Although he is gone he will never be forgotten and his legacy lives on in his sons Greg, Jeffrey and Bradley. They have his work ethic, his sense of humor, his helpful nature and last but not least is his good looks. May they take comfort knowing their dad was the best.
