VICTOR MIKELL Obituary

MIKELL, VICTOR EARL, JR.

Victor Earl Mikell Jr., "Mike," 62, of Crestview, Fl, died Thursday, March 24, with family by his side. The son of Doris and Earl Mikell, Mike was born in Gainesville, Fl, on July 11, 1948 and was proud to be a native Floridian and an enthusiastic and loyal Gator fan. He married his high school sweetheart, Kaye, in 1970, and settled in Okaloosa County. Mike started his own grassing company and later continued his environmental concerns by designing and patenting an artificial hay bale to prevent soil erosion. He developed multiple myeloma in 2005 but Mike was blessed by God when the cancer went into remission and he continued working on his other erosion designs. Just recently, he acquired myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) and endured multiple strokes. Mike received care at Fort Walton Beach Medical Clinic, Shoal Creek Rehabilitation Center, and Destin Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. Mike's family is especially appreciative and blessed by the caregivers God placed in his path.

Mike was preceded in death by his father, Earl Mikell, his younger brothers, Chuck and baby brother Jeff, and his grandparents Rubin and Nell Jerrels.

The love of Mike's life was his family: his wife of almost 41 years, Kaye, his three children, twin daughters Tyler Winkler (Jeff) and Piper Mandigo (John), his son Zachary Mikell, his first-born granddaughter Mischa Noelle Mandigo, his mother Doris Mikell of Williston and his sister Cathy Mikell of Gainesville. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends loved Mike and enjoyed his sense of humor and optimistic view of life. Mike will be missed.

Visitation with family will be held in Crestview at the First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall on Sunday, March 27, from 2 to 4 PM. Graveside service at Orange Hill Cemetery in Williston, Florida, will be Thursday, March 31, at 11:00 AM.

Knauff Funeral Home, 512 East Noble Avenue, Williston, is in charge of arrangements. Contributions may be made to the University of Florida Foundation Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences in the name of Mike Mikell.

Kaye and family, I am so very sorry for your loss. I am glad to have graduated high school with you and Mike. Our class was small in number but huge in love and friendship. I will always remember you and Mike being the perfect high school couple, how much you cared for and loved each other. God Bless!!

Kaye, Tyler, Piper, and Zack: we are a far flung wing of the family (Winkler) and never had the pleasure of meeting Mike. As a father of two (3yr and ETA August) girls, I am learning what it takes to raise strong, intelligent, fun children in a home that fosters creativity, harmony and respect. Knowing Tyler, we are certain that Mike was special in many ways. Tomorrow will undoubtedly be a difficult day for all of you. Know that we will be thinking about each of you. Dear Tyler:

Your father was an outstanding Christian and I know he has gone to a much better place. I knew your dad over several years of buying erosion and sediment control supplies from him. He was always looking for a better way to do erosion and sediment control. He will be missed by so many folks including myself. We were prayer brothers, praying for each other and my wife who too survived cancer through prayer.

If I can help you or your family now or in the future please let me know.

While we only met once at Tyler's wedding, we know how wonderful a man Mike was and how greatly he will be missed. Much love and sympathy to all of the Mikell family.

To Kaye, Tyler, Piper, and Zack: We did not have a chance to get to know Mike well, but it was clear that he was a man with strong family values and ties, and certainly well loved.
It is hard to imagine the long, difficult journey you all have been on from his original diagnosis to this conclusion, but thank goodness you had family with you along the way. We hope family continues to be a source of strength and comfort to get you through. Please consider us a part of that family, as you are in our prayers. Cathy and Bill Winkler

We are so very sorry to learn of the tremendous loss your family has suffered. Though we did not have the pleasure of knowing Mike,it is clear to us how great he was, because we know his daughter, Tyler, and how great she is. Tyler embodies the age-old idiom that "the apple never falls far from the tree." We hope that now, and in the time to come, each of you can keep in mind the joy and love he brought to this world and take solace in that. We will keep you in our hearts and prayers.
Love,

To the family: While I can’t claim a life-long relationship with Mike as you nor addressing him as Mikey, husband, daddy, or son, he was a good friend. Mike was one of only a couple of guys I could call up and just chew the fat. We were like-minded in many ways and I admired him because of his work ethic and his positive attitude. He was hard working, innovative, strong-willed, and I just enjoyed being around him. I’d chat with him on the phone or we’d meet for oysters at Earl’s or lunch at Desi’s in Crestview and talk work related issues, Gator football, life’s lessons, politics, faith, and so on. Friday morning in my quiet time, before receiving a voicemail about his passing, I reflected on Mike in my prayer time. In my mind I could see him and hear his voice saying “Okay Jimbo (he called me Jimbo) I’ll talk to you later.” My greatest consolation now that he has left this life here on earth is knowing that Mike is with the Lord. May God pour out his comfort, peace and love on all of you as you say goodbye to the remarkable man you knew as husband, father, son, and friend. We will all miss him deeply.

Mike....you will truly be missed. You will always have a special place in my heart. You always had a smile and a funny story, you made sure we were all smiling when you left the Bank. I know you are smiling down on us from Heaven. I pray God gives comfort and peace to your family and friends. May your memory live forever!!!

I truly count it an honor to have taken care and be apart of Mr. Mike's life. I enjoyed being there for him and he became a part of my life. He reminded me of my father in so many ways and I deemed him a part of my family. I will miss him dearly and I thank his family for sharing him with me. God bless you and i will keep you in my prayers.
