William Naylor Obituary

NAYLOR, WILLIAM H., JR., 73 Gainesville - Mr. William H. Naylor, age 73, died Friday, August 11, 2006 in Gainesville. He was born in Weymouth, MA and moved to Gainesville from Virginia in 1989. He was a Foreign Service Officer with the Agency for International Development. His career culminated as Director of West African Regional Programs and after retiring he dedicated his talent to the Caribbean Conservation Corp. He was a member of CPA Association of California, a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, an AARP tax volunteer, a member of St. Joseph's Episcopal Church, and Docent for the Museum of Natural History at the University of Florida. Mr. Naylor served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Mr. Naylor is survived by his wife of fifty years, Alverda E. Naylor, of Gainesville; sons, William H. Naylor III and wife Angelica Guererro of San Francisco, CA, David A. Naylor of Houston, TX; stepmother, Lillian Naylor of Worchester, MA; sister, Barbara Phelan of New Seabury, MA; grandchildren, Alan and Annais Naylor Guererro. Funeral Services will be at 3:00 PM, Wednesday, August 16, at St. Joseph's Episcopal Church, 16921 West Newberry Rd., with Father John Dileo officiating. Those who wish may make a memorial contribution to Habitat for Humanity International, 121 Habitat St., Americus, GA 31709-3498., or Caribbean Conservation Corp, 4424 NW 13th St., Gainesville, FL 32609. I was very fortunate to have worked with Bill at the CCC, and very much enjoyed talking with him about sailing (Lightnings and Flying Scotts mostly) as well as his many USAID experiences. He was a good and honest man, and I had the priviledge to know and learn from him. All of my best wishes to his family.
