Erik Banks was my Philosophy / Critical Thinking professor for my first semester ever at Wright State University. I was excited for the class more than my others due to my prior interest in the subjects it covered, and Dr. Banks did not disappoint. During my semester in his class, his jovial nature and genuine wonder in the things he spoke about made it a wonderful experience. There was never a dull moment when Erik explained a complex philosophical theory or scientific heuristic as he very much knew what he was talking about and would always make it extremely interesting. He would entertain our own hypothetical applications of theories and ideas as a class, whether that resulted in an unspoken pat on the back for correctness or a playful deconstruction of its faults. Through his fantastic class discussing the nature of life and how we think about it, my own personal philosophies were greatly influenced by some of what we discussed. Erik always had great points to make for his case, and yet just as often showed merit in the opposing argument. I will never forget my time in Dr. Banks' class, and I'm saddened that not only has his joyful personality and incredible knowledge left Wright State University, but the world. I hope to be even a sliver of a positive influence on others as Dr. Banks was to me. May he rest in peace.

We never had the pleasure of meeting Erik in person but we knew of his many accomplishments by the proud words spoken and told to us by his father. Richard was very proud of his son and his professional achievements. He is a tragic loss to his family and his colleagues. Our condolences to Richard and his family on this all too soon passing.
