Joan E. Katan

Joan Katan, of Granby, CT, passed away on March 26, 2018 while going to a place she loved so much, her horse barn. Daughter of John & Onnolee Ensor, Joan was born in Baltimore, MD. She graduated in 1951 from UCONN with a BS in Agriculture. While there she was active in the outing club, meeting lifelong friends including her husband of 60 years, Charles Katan. Prior to her marriage, she taught science at Westover School. Her love of horses started as a child after following a mounted officer on her tricycle and sitting on his horse during his breaks. Later her grandfather would sneak her to riding lessons. For nearly 50 years. Joan taught hundreds to ride and care for animals and the outdoors. Joan is survived by Charlie, family, those who spent time in her barn as children developing self-confidence, and dear friends, some for more than 50 years. A celebration of the amazing life she & Charlie shared will be held at 1:30 on Sunday, July 1 at Holcomb Farm in Granby.
