Joseph Cabral Obituary

Joseph John Cabral, Sr., 86, passed away in Maine on August 19, 2021. He went home to be with his beloved wife of 68 years, Dorothy A. Cabral, who recently passed away. Joseph was the son of the late Manuel and Mary (Chaves) Cabral and was born in Hartford, CT on August 3, 1935. After residing in Windsor Locks and Stafford Springs, CT, Joe and Dotty enjoyed their homes in Florida and Maine for many years. Joe, together with his loving wife Dotty, owned and operated Cabral Oil Company with their family for almost 40 years. As a young boy, he worked on his family's farm where he learned his strong work ethic from his parents. Among Joe's many endeavors, he was a master mechanic for Wonderbread, owned and operated a service station, a construction business, and sold snowmobiles. Up until the end of his adventurous life, he was a professional big game hunting guide. He loved playing the guitar, singing, hunting, fishing, boating, snowmobiling and water skiing. Joe had a big heart and would do whatever he could to help his family and friends. He was the strong backbone of his family, and he would not deny them anything. His strength and solid work ethic are forever instilled in his children and grandchildren. Joe's love will remain forever in the hearts of his children, Linda and Dominick Tria of Ellington, CT, Joseph Jr. who passed away on Sept. 5, 2021, and Inga Cabral of St. Maries, ID, and Steven Cabral of Ripley, ME. Papa's memory will also be cherished by his grandchildren: Joseph III, Steven Jr. and Ariana, Danielle and David, Angela and Joe, Michelle, Christopher and Christy, Kelly, Michael and Ashlyn, Mandy, Ayla, Richard and Casey, and his great grandchildren: Kyle, Adam, Blake, Anna, Carter, Chase, Scarlett, Mia, Avery, Ellie and Kennedy. Joe leaves his precious sister, Rose Nolan of CT, and a dear sister-in-law, Carolyn Nolan of FL, as well as many special nieces, nephews and friends. Besides his beloved wife, Dotty, Joseph was predeceased by four sisters, Mary Mansani and her husband, Tony, Helen Cabral, Alice Landry and her husband, Leo, Grace Carvalho and her husband, Joseph; a brother, Fred Cabral and his wife, Sophie; and a brother-in-law, Leonard Nolan. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Church, 42 Spring Street, Windsor Locks, for his family and friends. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Poquonock. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
