Debbie
May God Bless you and Dave's extended family during this time of loss. Davie was always a person who had a plan and a mission, and full of energy. My memories go to all the days of riding in a green VW van "Dave Scherer and the Castels", "Nationally Known Recording Artists" to afternoon T.V. dance shows, evening dance jobs and then closing down Lake Side or later the Catatonia. These are memories that will be with me forever. We played for the openings for most all of the new busineses in Decatur from Sandy's Restaurant to Montgomery Ward's. What a great time! Dave was always upbeat and positive even through troubled times in his life. I was blessed by being a part of his life and enjoyed all the energy generated by the band and club from Dave, Chuck, George, Jack, and Jim. What a fun crew.
It was especially fun to be able to return from Colorado to the "Reunion Concert" at the Linclon Theater to play with Dave again. Since his passing, I hear myself singing Dave's songs, that he wrote and we played, in my mind, and that is a fond memery of our time together.
To that end I would say, to the tune of "My Dog Spookie"
My Friend Davie,

May God Bless you!

Dave:
When Dave Scherer and the Castels practiced in our basement it was exciting......especially for a 14 year old! The laughs, the music and your smiling face made Wednesday nights a joy.

I remember that when my Uncle David wanted to praise someone, he would say they were a "class act". Those are the words that come to my mind today. Uncle Dave was a class act. He was very intelligent and knew many things and had many skills, but yet he was very down-to-earth. Despite all of the hardships, Uncle Dave was lucky because he had friends and family that stuck with him and who loved him. His was a life well lived and we should celebrate this about him even as we mourn his passing.

In 1965 I was working as a broadcast Engineer at WAND. On holidays the network programs were broadcast and the station was empty except for one engineer who had to be on site to monitor the transmitter. It was Thanksgiving day and I was stuck there alone while the rest of the world was out enjoying family and food. Sometime around midday I heard someone coming in the back door. I looked up and there was Dave carrying a plate of food.
David didn't march to the same drumbeat as everyone else. It seemed like there was a voice inside David that demanded him to come out of the mold and be different than everyone else.
Its people like David that add character to this world and keep life from being boring. David was unique and one of a kind. He will be missed, not only by his family and friends but by this world.
