AL VARON Obituary

VARON, AL, 62, left us January 18, 2014 - much too soon. A great musician, golfer and overall fun guy. He will be sadly missed by his wife, Lynn, son, Jeffrey, siblings, Esther, Joe and Sol, special cousin, Dori, lots of other family members and everyone else who knew him. A memorial service will be planned sometime in the near future.

There will never be a January 18th that I don´t remember that horrible day. Al Varon was more a brother to me than a cousin. We were born 2 days apart and grew up like siblings. He was funny, smart, talented and an all around wonderful guy. I miss him and the good times we had with all the Varons.
When it´s my time to "leave the planet" as Alby used to say, I hope we will be together again playing croquet, Jai Lai, monopoly, black jack and Trivial pursuit. I always let him win!

There has not been one week that I haven´t thought of Al in the last 10 years. He was not only a central piece in our group of golfers with Jeff, Nick and many more wonderful friends; he also expanded his family by integrating me into it. I miss him, Jeff and Nick tremendously. The memories are wonderful, they keep them "alive" but life is not the same without their physical presence.

It is just hard to believe that "Albie" left us 10 years ago this January. I am so glad he sent me several CDs of his personal recordings. He will not be forgotten. Blessings to the Varon family.

Al and I connected again through this website a few years back. He related to me some of the wonderful experiences he has had in the music business. We go all the way back to Jr. High when I had the pleasure of "Albie" playing drums for us in my first band. We often played over my house on the prch and kids would come from a long way to hear us practice. We also played many times at his house we I got to meet his mom and dad. I also remember meeting his brother Sol who played a great guitar. A few years ago, Al sent me some of the just superlative CDs of his music. He not only played drums but had also pretty well mastered the keyboard and had a great voice.

My condolences, also, to the Varon family. I am sure you have many fond memories of "Albie". I do!

God's blessings on you all.

It has been almost 3 months since Al left us and I still am not able to cope with it. Al has not been to me the wonderful friend that you all rightfully described. In only a dozen years of sharing our mutual passion for golf, music, good food and... well, yes, bad jokes... he became much more: a true loving brother who considered me as an additional family member. I think of him every day, and every day it hurts me to know that there is nothing I can say or do to ease the pain in Lynn and Jeff's hearts. Miss you, fratello... big time!

I met Al in the late 80's. He was one of the most honorable men I've ever met in the music business. I can illustrate that with this anecdote. Al called me for a Thanksgiving gig at Riviera Country Club. They needed a piano player for background music. Anyway, Al asked me to quote a price. I did. His response? "No, take more." He paid me more than what I asked. That's unheard of but that's what convinced that Al was a prince among men. My condolences to Al's family but I take solace with the fact that Al is with God. He's gone home and we'll see him again one day.

I recommended and purchased Epoxy products from Al mainly because of his special salesman abilities. He was very down to earth, truthful, helpful, and I enjoyed talking with him. I never met him but I know he was a good man. My condolences to the Al Varon family and friends.

We were so saddened to hear of Al's passing. I always knew if I had a keyboard question, I could go to Al. He was always generous with his time for others. Please know our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this time. He will be missed.

We discovered Al and Sol quite by accident one night at the Bakery Center years ago. My wife Karen and I were chaperoning our young teens, so while they roved in their packs we looked for something to occupy our time. Like the pied piper's flute, Al and Sol's awesome mix of rock and roll hits lured us to Cheese Burger in Paradise where they were playing at the time. Their light banter with each other and the audience was just as great a gift as their accomplished musicianship. Those times are forever locked in our fondest memories. We are greatly saddened by Al's passing and would like to offer our deepest condolences to Al's family. Mike

Shocked and very much saddened at this horrible news. Al and Sol played so many parties over the years -- I just can't wrap my head around the fact that he's no longer physically here. His music plays on -- I have one of his CDs in my car that I will listen to later. My deepest sympathy to all the family -- he will very much be missed.

Debbie and I are very saddened to learn of Al's passing. We visited with him within the last two weeks. We were always glad to see him. He had a warmth, that engaging smile and a twinkle in his eye. He truly was a people person.

He played at so many parties, balls, functions and important events in our lives including my 40th birthday party. He was our friend in every sense. It was always exciting to see Al was going to do a party or event because he was fun and we knew we were going to have fun too.

Beyond his musical talent, which was considerable, was a wonderful man with such sterling character. He set a wonderful example for others always. We feel such a loss and we can only offer our heartfelt prayers for Al, his family, Sol and his family. We miss him already but we will never forget him.

When someone passes, particularly as young as Al was, we feel that somehow his life was unfairly shortened and we certainly feel that way too. But we have to remind ourselves that the measure of a life is not in how long someone lives, but how that person lived. I suggest that by that measure Al lived a very full life filled with happiness. He was an ambassador of fun to so many people. To me, he even had fun while performing. Al never made it seem like work when performing. He happily filled his days with his family, his music, his golf, and bringing happiness to others. We cannot thank him enough for what he did for others. While we mourn his loss, Debbie and I feel grateful to have been his friend and to have been in his company. May God bless you all.

We send our deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Al. We had the wonderful pleasure of getting to know him really well when he played for us at our wedding at Biscayne Bay Yacht Club on September 8, 2012. His talent and charm made our wedding day the best we could have ever imagined. He played Somewhere Over The Rainbow that evening - at dusk a beautiful rainbow came out over the ceremony. We will never forget it. We also asked him to provide the music for our Western themed party last August at Coral Reef Yacht Club - he was amazing. He said his favorite music was Western and it really gave him a kick to be able to join in. We have a wonderful picture of him from that evening. He has shared his music with hundreds of admiring members of CRYC - we will miss him terribly. Our love and prayers go out to you all.
