Hilda "Terry" Pitts Dr.

1933 - 2017

PITTS, Dr. Hilda "Terry" Pickney, age 84 of Fredericksburg, Virginia, formerly of Martinsville, Virginia, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2017, at Mary Washington Hospital. She was born on Feb. 1, 1933, in Winchester, Tennessee, to the late Clara Shepherd Pickney and Walter Pickney. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Herman Pickney. Dr. Pitts was a nursing instructor for many years at Patrick Henry Community College, University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and Averett College. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Clyde E. "Whitey" Pitts; daughters, Kristy Pitts of Fredericksburg, Virginia, Karen Crowe and husband Ed Crowe of Phoenix, Arizona, and Kathy Dorough and husband Lee Dorough of Covington, Georgia; sister, Dorris Tucker and husband Howard Tucker of Powder Springs, Georgia; brother, William Pickney and wife Connie Pickney of Winchester; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren on the way. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Donations may be made to the SPCA of Martinsville-Henry County, 132 Joseph Martin Hwy., Martinsville, VA 24112 in honor of Dr. Pitts.
