Thomas Wayne Gregory

1935 - 2017

GREGORY, Thomas Wayne, age 82 of Estill Springs, passed this life on Wednesday, June 7, 2017, at his home. Mr. Gregory was born in Bedford County to the late William Luther and Mary C. Gordon Gregory. He grew up on a beautiful farm on the Duck River in the Rowesville Community where he attended Normandy Elementary School and graduated from Shelbyville Central High School in the Class of 1953. Mr. Gregory later attended Motlow State Community College where he studied real estate. He was a well-known home builder for 35 years in the Tullahoma area before he retired to develop another business, Wayne Gregory Excavation. He was a volunteer builder for Sunday school rooms, and a fellowship hall at Center Grove Baptist, where he served as treasurer, trustee, deacon and chairman of the building and grounds committee. Later the Lord led Wayne to Highland Baptist Church where he served on the building and grounds committee, was an active deacon, and was later recognized with the honor of Deacon Emeritus. Another highlight of his life was being recognized as a descendant of Jonathan Webster, who was a founding father of Coffee County. Wayne loved chess, studying the Civil War, the Atlanta Braves, the UT Vols, and reading Shakespeare. Most of all, however, he loved his family and they loved him. In addition to his parents, Mr. Gregory was preceded in death by three brothers, Billy, Jerry, and Tony Gregory. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Annette Sharp Gregory; one daughter, Katherine Gail Holland and her husband Dean; their children Emily Wooten and her husband Ben, and their children Jack and Clay; Dean Holland and his wife April, and their children Maggie and Annie; and Fletcher Holland and his wife Kate, and their children Hudson, Miles, and Ellie; and one son Thomas Scott Gregory and his wife Cheri, and their sons Brett and Taylor; three sisters, Dorothy Roberts, Betty Wooten, and Linda McGrew; one brother Donald Gregory; one brother-in-law, Ray Sharp and his wife Delilah; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation for Mr. Gregory will be held on Friday, June 9, 2017, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Kilgore Funeral Home in Tullahoma. Funeral services will take place Saturday, June 10, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Highland Baptist Church with Dr. Jim Garrison and Pastor Jim Norman officiating. Burial will follow in the Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Serving as pallbearers will be: Brett and Taylor Gregory, Ben Wooten, Dean and Fletcher Holland and Greg Wooten.
