Mable Powers

NEWTON - Mable Ruth Davis Powers, 87, of Tazewell, Va., died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2008. Her husband, Lemuel D. Powers preceded her in death. Born May 8, 1921, in Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Lee Milburn Davis and Victoria Desta Yates Davis. A lifelong homemaker, she loved gardening, flowers and canning. Her family was the most important part of her life. Survivors include a daughter, Cathy, and husband, Terry Schwedler, of Hickory; three sons, Michael and his wife, Norma Powers, of North Tazewell, Va., Terry Powers of Pasadena, Calif., and Kenny and wife, Margie Powers, of Rocky Point; a sister, Aileen Senter of Coeburn, Va.; two brothers, William McKinley Davis and Cruce Davis, both of Coeburn, Va.; six grandchildren, Tammie Goodwin of Lynchburg, Va., Angela Holliday of Burgaw, Candice Gunter of North Tazewell, Va., Vincent Powers of Pounding Mill, Va., Stephanie Schwedler of Hickory and Joshua Powers of Wilmington; and two great-grandchildren, Christina Gunter of North Tazewell, Va., and Addison Powers of Pounding Mill, Va. In addition to her husband, a sister, Mary Goodson, preceded her in death. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. today, Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2008, in Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, Va.
