I have been living in th San Francisco Bay Area for the past 18 years. My fond memories as a child growing up was shopping at 69th st with my mom in the 80's. . We would always grab a slice from Mario and Gino's. You can always see him tossing the pizza dough at the window. He was such a nice person! The first thing I told my brother when I came back to visit was I want a slice from Mario and Gino's. He told me what happened which deeply saddened me. 69th st will never be the same again. My condolences to the family. He will be truly missed.

I am absolutely heart-broken over the news. I only found out today because my husband's friend mentioned it to him. He knows Mario & Gino's pizza was my only favorite. My mother would take me to Gino's (in the 80s) as a reward for good grades. Needless to say, I was a good student. I remember smelling that delicious sauce in the air as the pizza bread baked in that large oven behind Gino. Even walking by with my mom and watching Gino toss the dough at the window was a fascination to me. As I grew up, I kept coming back for my "beef pizza" fix and for some good'ol Gino charm. He would be there rain, snow or shine with a smile on his face. Now, I am 2.5 months pregnant. I was hoping to give my child the "GINO" experience as my mother had done for me. I hope and pray that the Franchi family will find peace in knowing the Gino was a man loved by the community and never forgotten. May he be at peace.

Deepest sympathy to Gino's family. I had the pleasure of being in his company several times through his wife Grace, who passed away so young. Grace's aunt, Grace DiPrinzio, was like a mother to me, and it was through her that we all got together to celebrate happy occasions.
Every day going over to get the "E" bus, I would stop at his little window in the terminal and get pizza. These were the days back in late 60's.
Rest in peace.

A truly great man, hard working and cared about his customers, family and the community. I have been a customer of Gino's since the beginning, I was 6 when my Mom would take me and my brothers for a slice before going shopping on 69th Street. So much has changed since the early 70's, but the one thing that always remained the same was Gino's incredibly delicious pizza. Market Street will never be the same again without seeing Gino in the window, always with a ready smile and a wave as you passed by. Part of my childhood died the day Gino passed away, as I don't remember a world without him in it. I will miss you my friend, there will never be another whom worked so hard for his customers, and there will never ever be better pizza. My deepest sympathy goes out to the Franchi family and everyone who knew and loved Gino. God, what I wouldn't do for one more slice.

Dear Franchi family,
My thoughts and prayers are with you. Gino was a great guy and will never be forgotten in our community. He made the BEST and most consistent pizza anywhere. I am 29 and moved away for a couple years and all I could think about was coming home and having one of Gino's pizza's. I feel I can speak for everyone around that we'll miss everything from his pizza to his smile and kindness!!! What a great guy!!! Gino we miss you!!!!!

I remember eating Mario & Gino's Pizza way back in my high school days ('77-'81). I've been living in California for 15 years now, but I still have fond memories of grabbing a slice or two whenever I was near the 69th Street Terminal.
Rest in Pizza, Gino!!!
God Bless.

Dear Franchi Family,
I am so sorry for your loss. I too have been going to his place since it opened. My girlfriend and I went on our way home from Prendie to Yeadon. Each Good Friday my family and I would go for pizza. It was my routine on many Fridays before I would go shopping at Marshall's up the hill. He will be missed by everyone. He was a great man who was so generous to everyone who entered his place. I loved that he let anyone who may have been down on their luck stay and hang out in the place. He was a wonderful role model. If there is anything I can do, I would be happy to help in any way. His pizza was the best and I've told so many people over the year to go there, from Upper Darby to NYC. You all will be in my prayers. God Bless Gino! I will miss him terribly. OXOXOX

Our deepest condolescences, I started eating pizza with Gino in 9th grade, I am 50 now. It was a joke for awhile between us when my husband and I purchased New England Pizza 20 years ago and Gino would buy our pizza and we still loved and bought his pizza. Gino, our friend, you will be sorely missed. Our prayers are with your family. Skip & Kathy Chaney
