Henry Joseph Giard, 90, of Vernon, loving husband of over 68 years to Carole Giard, passed away peacefully, on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, surrounded by his family. Henry was born on July 26, 1934, in Hartford, one of three beloved children of the late Edward and Irene Giard. He was raised in Hartford, CT and Manchester, CT and had been a resident of Vernon for over 67 years.
Henry had been employed for over 46 years with the Coca-Cola Bottling Company. He worked in the East Hartford and Springfield, Massachusetts Plants, retiring in 1997 having earned the position of Plant Manager.
Along with supporting and raising his family, Henry was an avid golfer. He enjoyed the camaraderie with friends and was a former member of a league at Twin Hills Country Club in Coventry. His favorite and most cherished times were spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, attending their sporting events, school functions and the annual holiday family parties. He was the true patriarch of the Giard family and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
In addition to his loving wife, Carole, he leaves his three sons and daughters-in-law, Douglas and Joan Giard of Bourne, MA, Scott and Kathy Giard of Ellington and Bruce and Kim Giard of Stafford Springs, and his daughter-in-law, Janice. His five special grandchildren, Amy Pichette and her husband, Steve, David Souza and his wife, Jenn, Nicole Kulpa and her husband, Steve, Michael Giard and his wife, Laura and Anthony Giard, eight great-grandchildren, his sister, Lucille Riley and her husband, Dick of South Windsor and several nieces, nephews and their families. In addition to his parents, Henry was predeceased by his son, Brian Giard, as well as his brother, Raymond Giard.
All are welcome to join the family for calling hours at the Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcotville Road, (Rt-83) Vernon, CT, 06066 on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, from 4 p.m. - 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, November 21, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Bernard Church, 25 St. Bernard Terrace in Vernon. Everyone is asked to please go directly to the church. Burial will follow in St. Bernard Cemetery, Vernon. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
