Nancy Ludwig Obituary

Nancy (Gagliardone) Ludwig, 81, of Ellington and New London, New Hampshire, beloved wife of 59 years to Robert "Slug" Ludwig, passed peacefully from this life into the loving arms of our Lord on Monday, Feb. 1, 2021.

She was born Aug. 1, 1939, in Manchester, to the late Eugene and Winifred (Lee) Gagliardone. Nancy and her sisters, Anita and Irene, were raised on the family's 100-acre vegetable farm in Bolton. They worked dutifully together to raise strawberries, potatoes, and cucumbers, which were sold at local markets. Nancy graduated from Manchester High School - class of 1957 - which was also the year she was crowned Miss Silk City. After high school, Nancy went to work for Hamilton Standard (division of Missiles and Space) working as an Executive Assistant. Soon thereafter, she met "Slug" who quickly became the love of her life. Slug and Nancy were married in December 1961, and moved to Ellington in 1967. Nancy had a quiet devotion to her husband and children and took great pride in always providing a tidy and loving home. Her kitchen always included the fragrance of a home-cooked meal, which was most often followed with a mouthwatering rhubarb, apple, or lemon meringue pie. She enjoyed tennis, golf with friends, cards with the girls, reading, crossword puzzles, travel, occasional trips to the casino, holiday gatherings, summers at Lake Sunapee, dinners with close friends, red wine, rooting for the Boston Red Sox, and years of volunteer work. Nancy had many close friends all of whom she cherished and appreciated. Her gracious personality, warm disposition, and selflessness are all virtues that served her well throughout her well-lived life. Nancy will be greatly missed.

In addition to her loving husband Robert, she is survived by her children, Robert Jr. (Anne Marie DeChellis) of Milford, Lisa (Marc Begin) of Old Saybrook, and Susan (Peter Marsh) of Windham, New Hampshire; seven cherished grandchildren, Derek, Dean, Robert III, Cristina, Peter Jr., Samuel and Charles; and her adoring sister Anita Crowe of Richfield, Utah. Nancy was predeceased by her kindhearted grandson, Kurtis; and her sister Irene Moser. Nancy's greatest love was her family.

The family wishes to thank the staff at The Residence at South Windsor Farms and Masonicare. Nancy spent her final days not only with her family but also with compassionate, kind and empathetic care givers.

The family will hold a private service on Monday, Feb. 8, and plans to have a Celebration of Life service at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children
