Patricia Stewart Obituary

Patricia "Pat" (Marks) Stewart, 90, of Manchester, previously of Glastonbury, passed away peacefully in her home on Sept. 1, 2021.

She was born on April 15, 1931, in Brooklyn, New York to the late William and Estelle (Kessler) Marks. Pat grew up in Brooklyn and was a graduate of Adelphi Academy, Class of 1949. There she met her future husband Edward Stewart and they married in 1951. She attended Adelphi College (now University) on Long Island and moved to Ithaca, NewYork while her husband attended and graduated from the Cornell University School of Veterinary Medicine. Pat, Ed and their infant son, Scott, moved to Manchester in 1954. The couple welcomed a daughter, Randy (Rachel) into the family in 1955. The Stewarts moved to Glastonbury in 1957. Nine years later, their youngest son, Ralph, was born. In her childhood, Pat studied the piano and regularly attended Brooklyn Dodgers baseball games with her father. As an adult, she and her family were longtime New England/Hartford Whalers hockey fans. Pat was an avid reader and loved listening to classical music and show tunes. She was a meticulous homemaker and an excellent cook. She and her husband loved to travel, both at home and abroad, and spent several summers vacationing on Martha's Vineyard. Like her husband, Pat loved animals and nature. Additionally, she was involved for many years with the American Field Service (AFS), hosting numerous foreign exchange students and serving as president of her local chapter. She was a kind, loving and caring person who always put her family first. While Pat did not practice any organized religion, she identified with her Jewish faith and was a strong supporter of Israel.

Pat is survived by her three children, Scott Stewart and his wife, Teresa, Rachel (Randy) Spector and her husband, Dr. William Spector, and Ralph Stewart; her five grandchildren, Adam, Cynthia, Jennica, Daniel, and Geoffrey; and her three great-grandchildren, William, Grayson, and Clara. She is predeceased by her husband Dr. Edward Stewart; her parents and her sister Joyce L. Marks.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Nature Conservancy, Operation Smile and Temple Beth Sholom B'nai Israel in Manchester.

A private funeral service will be held on Sunday, Sept. 5, 2021, at 2 p.m., with private committal service to follow at Green Cemetery in Glastonbury. All are invited to attend the services via livestream. There will be no shiva.
