Fr. David's spiritual guidance, good humor and musical talents endeared him to many.
This is my "Fr. David story"---
After my husband, Lee, retired, his association with the Wisconsin/ Nicaragua partners organization provided an opportunity for him to do a volunteer assignment in Nicaragua, but he was concerned that he was too old to attempt this project. We knew of Fr. David's many years as a Capuchin missionary in Nicaragua, so I encouraged Lee to seek his advice.

Fr. David first asked about his travel experiences. Lee responded that our children had made it possible for him to visit Australia and several European countries. With his straight forward manner, Fr. David acknowledged that those were great trips for tourists, but now he should experience another "view" of the world. "You're not getting any younger," he advised, "so you better do it now"! And with his blessing, Lee was off on the volunteer assignment to evaluate dairy sanitation and cheese production in Nicaragua---a life changing experience for him. He remained grateful to Fr. David for his encouragement, and was committed to this project the rest of his life.

Our family was honored to have Fr. David celebrate Lee's funeral Mass at St. Joseph Church on May 23, 2014.
What a kind, dedicated priest--a true Servant of God!

Our hearts go out to the Belongea family. My husband Dave and I were lifelong classmates with Fr. David (always Carl to us) and choir singers with him and his sisters also. My son works with his nephew. Truly, the world will miss Fr.David.

Fr. David loved the Fox Valley Symphony, and had a great voice for singing. He always had a joke to tell. Now he can sing and tell jokes in heaven. He will be missed.

David sang with us in the White Heron Chorale, now called new Voices, many years ago and was a delight! His beautiful voice, kindness, and wisdom were a gift. His wonderful sense of humor had us laughing often, with us never knowing what witty gem would come out of his mouth next. We were very fortunate that he touched our lives.

We were blessed to know Father Belongea from Sunday night masses at St. Joe's. He was an amazing man. He always made you feel he was speaking to you individually. I can still hear him saying "my brothers and sisters" in my heart. He gave so much to the world and our faith. We are sad for his passing but happy that he is among the angels! Hugs and prayers to his family.
