Ima Wright Obituary

Ima Dillard Wright, 80, Kansas City, KS, died April 5, 2004, at her home. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, April 10 at the Porter Funeral Home, 1835 Minnesota Ave., Kansas City, KS. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Porter Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, 2007 Broadway, Kansas City, MO, 64108. She was born in Audrain Co., MO, on March 30, 1924, to Jessie Mae Risk Pool and James Weaver Pool. She attended a one room schoolhouse and graduated from Mexico, MO, High School in 1941. She worked for the Selective Service in Mexico during WWII and began working for AT&T in Mexico, a job she continued after marrying Robert W. Wright, Jr., and moving to Kansas City, KS, in 1945. In the 1970's, she worked for Dr. L.J. Eker. Ima D. contributed her many talents and much energy to the medical auxiliaries of St. Margaret's and Providence Hospitals. Education was a priority in the Wright's Home, and she held various offices with the PTA's of Bryant, Chelsea, Northwest Junior High, and Wyandotte High School. She was a longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Ima D. had many interests, including indoor and outdoor gardening, cooking, knitting, bridge, crossword puzzles, and sports of all kinds. During the years that her children participated in competitive swimming, she was an active partner in their successes at Victory Hills CC, the Kansas City Athletic Club, and the University of Kansas. She had very recently enjoyed her 80th birthday with dear friends and family in Wichita, KS. We think she died happy. Ima D. was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Robert W. Wright, Jr., one sister, and one brother. She is survived by three children, Carol Normandin, Dr. Robert W. Wright III and wife Deborah, and Wiley Davis Wright and wife Cynthia; other survivors include six grandchildren, Christopher R. Normandin and wife Michelle, Laura Normandin, Scott W. Wright, Kellie Ann Wright, R. Matthew Wright, and Andrew D. Wright; and great-granddaughter Logan Rene Normandin; also surviving are two sisters, Georgia Mae Beasley, Mexico, MO, and Jessie Ann Beasley, Centralia, MO. Many other friends and relatives will miss her special insight and enthusiasm about everything life had to offer. (Arr. Porter Funeral Home, 913-621-6400)

Dear Carol, Bob, and Wiley,

What I remember fondly about your mother is her outgoing personality and wonderful smile. The family dinners that we shared were always very special since she made us feel so welcome. I am sorry about your loss.

Carol, Bob, Wiley and families, My thoughts are with you all this week. Ima D was such a special person--the twinkle in her eyes are especially memorable. I will always remember our times together growing up, the trips to the zoo, the swimming pool...she was always like a second mother to me. I loved her very much and will always miss her. Again, my love and thoughts are with all of you at this time.

Dear Carol and Bob and Wiley,

Ima D. was an absolute delight for us during her birthday visit. Her daily crossword puzzle ritual drew all of us into the mental workout. We laughed a lot. Personally, I will happily remember how Ima D. loving spoke of anyone she knew especially her family for whom she had high praises.

God Bless You All in this sensitive time.

Dear Carol, Bob,Deb, Wiley and Cindy and families, I am so sorry to learn of Ima D.'s death. You must all know how special she was to me my entire life. I'll always treasure the memories of our trips to Swope Park, swimming at Victory Hills, and spending the night with you all when we were very young. I always believed Ima D.had a very special way with and for children. She will always remain special to me, as will you all. Doug and I express our deepest sympathy to all of you. And, yes, it sounds like Ima D. died "happy." Love to all, Jean
