I found a poem that Pete recited to me back in 1999. I believe he wrote it before then, but he had me write it down one day when I asked him if I could have one of his poems published in a magazine I have had many of my poems published in, "Country Folk Magazine" just his style of writting I might add. He recited it to me as if it were a story. He always had a knack of doing that. His poems had a lot of meaning, and many were stories of his own life adventures. This one is simply called:
Times Past
I'd like a drink from the old well back home
So refreshing and cool~
I'd like a swim in the field
Where Meadow Creek formed a pool.
I like the old Kerosene lamp
With it's shadows flickering on the floor~
And I love the heat from the old wood stove
With it's busted door.
But I might as well tell you the truth~
What I want most of all
Is to get back my youth.
Written By: Pete B. Maxwell "1999"
Pete recited this to me in 1999 and after he read it to me, tears came to his eyes, and he said "Sis, that's really what I want, to get back my youth."
Pete is missed by all, and his memory will be with us forever. We love you Pete. Vickie

My thoughts and prayers are with the Maxwell family that Pete leaves behind. I always felt like one of his children, and I loved him like my own dad. He had a way of making you smile when telling stories about his past, and all his life experiences, his wonderful poetry that he wrote all his life and recited from memory. He will never be forgotten. May he rest in peace. Pete ~ take care of our boy Little Danny ~ He will be there wating for you. Love always, Vickie
