Ann Edwards Martin, beloved wife of Bob Martin, passed peacefully at their home in
Georgetown, South Carolina on Wednesday, February 18, 2026.
She was born in
Meadville, PA, the middle child of Nancy and John Edwards. She was raised in Dillon, South Carolina, and graduated from Dillon High School in 1966 before matriculating to Winthrop College where she graduated with a degree in education in 1970.
Ann was a teacher in the South Carolina school system for more than twenty years and worked in Columbia, Orangeburg, Dillon and Georgetown Counties. She specialized in Language Arts and primarily worked with middle school students. She retired in 2010 to spend more time with her family.
Ann was a very skilled tennis player and carried a deep passion for the sport throughout her life. She played tennis from a young age and was an integral part of her high school and college teams. Many of her greatest friendships were developed on the tennis courts. She passed her competitive spirit and passion for tennis along to her children. She devotedly championed their junior tennis careers and was instrumental in her family being named the South Carolina Tennis Family of the Year in 1991.
She was a member of Georgetown Presbyterian Church since 1983. Her faith guided her steady service to her church family in many capacities, most especially through music. A longtime children's piano accompanist, she took particular joy in supporting young voices and serving as a member of the handbell choir.
Ann loved being a part of the Georgetown community and was particularly in love with the beach. She was also an avid Clemson Tiger fan and enjoyed attending games and rooting on the Tigers with her family. In addition, she was a devoted animal lover and shared that dedication with her family.
Ann and Bob were married in
Dillon, SC, on June 17, 1972, and were together for more than 53 years. Their dedication to each other was extraordinary and provided a wonderful example for their three children and six grandchildren, whom she loved fiercely.
