I always remembered him from Career Orientation class my freshman year at Doyle in Fall 1986. No nonsense and a heck of a teacher. He will be missed.

Dear Atchley Family, I am saddened by the news of Jim's passing. I taught with Jim my first 7 years of teaching. He was the head of our Vocational Department, a good man, and a great leader. He was always positive, helpful, and kind to me,my fellow teachers and students. He was loved and respected by so many. I really enjoyed being around him. The world has lost a great teacher, but Heaven has gained a true Angel. I know we are all sad today, but knowing Jim is in Heaven, waiting for us, gives me comfort. May the power and the love of Jesus help you through this most difficult time.

I was so very sorry to hear of Jim's passing. I had the great pleasure of teaching with him for many years. He was always so very kind with never a bad word to say about anyone. I will cherish our department meetings, trips to Biltmore with our students, and his stops by my classroom for a chat. Your family will be in my thoughts and prayers with the loss of such a wonderful man! GOD BLESS YOU!

I had the pleasure of being one of Mr. Atchley's students back in the 90's. He most certainly made his class interesting and I enjoyed the way he taught. He was a well respected man and I know he will be missed by not only his family and friends, but his community as well. Thank you Mr. Atchley for your years of service and passing your knowledge down to your students. Class of '96. God speed.

Dear Linda and family,
I was blessed to have served in Jim's absence, this past school year, as his substitute while he was receiving treatment. It was a great opportunity, but more, it was nice to see how much his students loved him and benefited from his help. I will always remember the experience and thank God for having come to know Jim.
sincerely,

Our deepest condolences from myself and family, and friends at Trinity Presbyterian Church. May the Lord grant what man cannot: the strength to get through this nightmare, and the courage to remember that God is good, and that His intentions toward us are always good. "I am with you," said our Lord Jesus. May His words comfort you more than mine ever could. David Anderson

My thoughts are with your family. When Jim and I were colleagues at South-Doyle, he always demonstrated kindness to his fellow teachers and to the students. That kindness gained him much respect from all, and so his smile and friendliness will be missed. I trust your lifetime of fond memories and deeply-rooted faith will sustain you and comfort you.
